I gather great joy from writing, in either of my (equally) native languages. Throughout a 30-year career in scientific research and education (spanning the full range from grade 8 through to the training of PhD candidates in astrophysics), I have been the 'go-to-guy' for translations from Afrikaans to English (and vice versa) at my various places of employment. I have done specifically-contracted translation work for the University of South Africa as well as a large amount of translation as part of my generally-defined duties at various employers, including the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (in South Africa) and the University of Johannesburg.
In recent years, I have expanded my interest in translation to the world of fiction and poetry by exploring the rhythms of wording a particular awareness in more than one language.
