[…] Even so long ago, witches already were in existence. It would be ridiculous for me to suggest that Asliel Direnni invented alchemy. What he did, what we can all be grateful for, is that he formulated it into an art and science.
There were no witches' covens in Tyrigel, and, of course, there would be no Mages Guild yet for thousands of years, so people would come to him for cures. He learned for himself the exact formula for combining black lichen and roobrush to create a cure for all manners of poison, and the amount of willow anther to crush and mix with chokeweed to cure diseases.
There were few much greater threats in Tyrigel in those peaceful days than disease or accidental poisonings. Yes, there were some dark forces in the wilderness, trolls, chimera, the occasional malevolent fairy folk and Will-O-The-Wisp, but even the youngest, most foolish Altmer knew how to avoid them. There were, however, a few unusual threats which Asliel had a hand in defeating.
One of the tales told of him that I believe to be true is how he was brought a young niece who had been suffering from an unknown disease. Despite his ministrations, she grew weaker and weaker every morning. Finally, he gave her a bitter tasting drink, and the next morning, ashes were found all around her bed. A vampire had been feeding on the poor girl, but Asliel's potion had turned her very blood into poison, without harming her in the least.
If only this formula had not been lost in the mists of history! […]

Houve, contudo, algumas ameaças incomuns que Asliel ajudou a combater.
Há um conto sobre ele no qual acredito e segundo o qual trouxeram para ele uma jovem sobrinha que tinha sido acometida por uma doença desconhecida. Source text - English In free courses, it is much easier to establish a good relationship with students because most feel motivated to study English either for professional reasons (instrumental) or for personal reasons such as jobs or personal achievement (integrative). Even though some go just because their parents forced them to, the majority still goes because they actually have at least some interest in English, which makes establishing a good relationship much easier. Besides, we normally have educational tools to help us develop strategies to captivate students, as well as rooms with computers and projectors. These tools make it much easier to have fun and engaging classes because we can play games, listen to songs and watch videos while interacting and talking so as to maximize learning. At the school where I taught we had hardly any of these. There is a video room in the school, but it is hard to schedule a day with students there. Besides, the students were too many and too hectic, which makes video based classes a little less viable. The room where I taught them was in bad shape. It was old and many things were broken, such as chairs, the door, windows and even the fan that we had. The room also has bad acoustics, so most classes I taught were made more difficult by the noise coming from outside as much as the noise coming from the students who would talk while I taught. Initially I expected to be able to provide students with knowledge that would allow them to read texts on their own after my time teaching them ended. Sadly, I could not do that because I was not able to establish a good relationship with more than six students and most classes were difficult. Even though I failed, the experience was very enriching and allowed me to improve.

Source text - Portuguese A doença de Chagas (DC) é uma patologia de ampla distribuição nas Américas. É transmitida através de insetos hematófagos que fazem parte da subfamília Triatominae (Hemiptera; Reduviidae) atualmente com 143 espécies descritas, 25 na Bahia. Uma das últimas espécies descritas, e menos conhecida, é Triatoma sherlocki, considerada a espécie mais atípica no complexo Triatoma brasiliensis, pois exibe exclusivamente asas micrópteras, incapacidade de voar e pernas longas. Durante pesquisas na zona rural do município de Gentio do Ouro espécimes de T. sherlocki foram encontrados colonizando, 21% das UDs pesquisadas, evidenciando o risco de domiciliação e transmissão da DC para esta espécie. Desta forma, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar o perfil entomológico e a variabilidade morfométrica de populações do T. sherlocki coletados no Estado da Bahia a fim de compreender o comportamento vetorial da espécie. Para isso, foram coletados triatomíneos em parceria com as equipes de entomologia das DIRES-BASESAB. As informações coletadas foram registradas em formulário e submetidas a dupla digitação com verificação de erro (5%). Os dados foram avaliados em programas específicos para cada tipo de análise. Os triatomíneos foram conservados em álcool 70%, identificados, dissecados, rotulados e estocados. Para a morfometria, as asas foram montadas entre lâminas, fotografadas e aferidos os pontos anatômicos utilizando programa especifico. As variações do tamanho entre populações e sexos foi avaliada através do teste estatístico ANOVA e Teste T. Foram capturados triatomíneos apenas em Gentio do Ouro (n=323). Os exemplares foram oriundos de 7 localidades diferentes. Dessas 7, 6 são novas áreas de ocorrência. As coletas foram realizadas entre Agosto e Setembro de 2013. Através dos dados bioclimáticos e de distribuição das amostras foi gerado um mapa de previsão da adequabilidade ambiental, demostrando sua possível área de ocorrência ou expansão. Translation - English The Chagas disease is a widely distributed disease in the Americas. It is transmitted by hematophagous insects that are part of the subfamily Triatominae (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) with 143 species currently described, 25 in Bahia. I am a qualified translator with a bachelor's and licentiate degrees in English language, Literature and Linguistics and a graduate diploma in language teaching. I have also spent a year in college in a research group under the tutelage of a professor. In this period, I translated short stories from English to Portuguese with a group of students. After that, we made scripts out of the translated stories and recorded them as audio plays. Currently I translate courses about game development as a volunteer on the Global Translators community and I also translate for the UN volunteering website on my free time. My most recent contribution was the translation of the first 50 pages (14.580 words) of a 112-page-long prison management manual.
I am completely fluent in English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese (Native) and received high distinction in all my language courses. I am also an extremely hard-working, responsible and mature worker, who enjoys working in a team as well as autonomously. I really enjoy communicating with others and playing videogames, which is why I think I would be ideally suited to this role.
