Source text - English Workers Compensation Insurance is the result of a mutual “exchange” between employees and employers. Employees give up the right to sue their employer for injuries cause by the negligence of the employer.
In exchange, the Employer agrees to have insurance in place to pay benefits for their employees who are injured on the job. This insurance covers you regardless of who is at fault. You get the same workers compensation benefits if you, your employer, another employee, someone else, or no one at all caused your injury.
There are two types of work injuries – accidents and occupational diseases. Work accidents are injuries that can be traced to a particular incident and place in time. For example, “I was lifting this box and felt my back pop painfully.” Occupational Diseases are injuries that occur over time as a result of the conditions of employment. For example, “My repetitive constant overhead lifting caused me to develop shoulder pain over time.”
In general, workers injured on the job are entitled to three major worker’s compensation benefits and a number of minor benefits under Colorado Law. The major benefits are medical treatment, temporary disability (Lost Wages), and permanent disability. The minor benefits include mileage to and from medical appointments, disfigurement, interest, and in some case, penalties.

Los empleados renuncian a su derecho de demandar a su empleador por lesiones causadas por la negligencia de los empleadores. A cambio, el empleador acuerda tener un seguro que pague los beneficios de los empleados que se lesionan en el trabajo. Este seguro lo cubre sin importar quién haya estado en falta. Usted recibirá los mismos beneficios por compensación a trabajadores sin importar si fue usted, su empleador, otro empleado, otra persona o ninguna persona quien haya causado su lesión.
Existen dos tipos de lesiones laborales: accidentes de trabajo y enfermedades profesionales. Los accidentes de trabajo son lesiones que se pueden asociar a un incidente, un tiempo y un lugar en particular. Por ejemplo: “Estaba levantando una caja y sentí que mi espalda estallaba dolorosamente”. Las enfermedades profesionales son lesiones que ocurren con el tiempo como resultado de las condiciones de trabajo. Por ejemplo: “Levantar peso sobre mi cabeza de manera constante y repetitiva me causó con el tiempo un dolor permanente en el hombro”.
En general, los trabajadores lesionados en el trabajo tienen derecho, bajo la ley de Colorado, a tres grandes beneficios por compensación a trabajadores y tres beneficios menores. Los mayores beneficios son el tratamiento médico, los beneficios por incapacidad temporal (salarios perdidos), y los beneficios por incapacidad permanente. Los beneficios menores incluyen el pago del traslado hacia y desde las citas médicas, beneficios por desfiguración, intereses, y en algunos casos, multas.
