My passion for languages inspires me to look for interesting freelance opportunities in the translation and interpreting industry. After graduating, I spent 5 years working in France, wholly immersed in the language and culture. Since I returned to the UK, I have worked in a variety of multi-lingual roles which, as well as including an element of translation and interpreting, have equipped me with an in-depth understanding of the subject matter which I translate and interpret.

I specialise in travel and tourism, with a particular interest in youth and adventure travel.
I continue to develop my knowledge of this sector and keep up-to-date with trends and terminology by working part-time, flexible hours with EasyWays, a small walking-holiday company, to support its international development. This role includes facilitating communication with French travel agents by telephone interpreting and translation of correspondence.

I participate in exchange programmes which foster cultural and linguistic understanding, such as LEC language holidays, for whom I have worked as Local Organiser, and “Young Americans” music outreach tours.

I am a member of the “Youth Travel Edinburgh” business network.

I have led process improvement initiatives in Human Resources, Local Government, Supply Chain and Order Management and have received Six Sigma Green Belt training.

As well as managing linguistic exchange programmes, I have managed projects across local government departments, and am qualified PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner, with a working knowledge of more agile project methodologies.

I have experience of translating general correspondence, minutes, websites and legal texts such as confidentiality agreements.

I also translate on a voluntary basis for Translators Without Borders.

I only translate into my native language, which is English. I work with both agencies and direct clients. Whilst I generally advocate shorter lines of communication, I always strive to develop a positive relationship with all stakeholders and I know that excellent communication is key, especially on larger projects.

First, I take time to understand exactly what your desired outcomes are. For smaller pieces of work, this might just mean that I read all your instructions. For larger projects, I ask the relevant questions and listen to your requirements. Then I can propose creative solutions as the need arises.

I communicate regularly to keep you informed of progress on all longer-term projects and, of course, I get in touch immediately if any problem arises, no matter how small.

I proofread everything I translate, so I prefer next-day delivery but I appreciate that some jobs will be more urgent and I work flexible hours to ensure I meet deadlines.

In summary, I provide a professional service at a reasonable rate, pay attention to detail and deliver on time.
