Bio

I have been a freelance translator of the language pairs English> German and Italian> German since 1/5/2004 and completed my studies with the grade 'excellent' (my mother tongue is German).

During my studies of Italian Language as well as Literature and
Research in Language Teaching
with a main emphasis on translation at
Hamburg University I was also able to nearly simultaneously work as a
freelancer at the Italian Cultural Committee in Hamburg, where I have
translated the business correspondence into German, and then my function
increasingly expanded thereafter.

Since the responsabilities of the Italian Cultural Committee are very diverse,
I was able to acquire appropriate specialist knowledge on translating
guidebooks, newspaper articles, short stories and historical/art-historical
essays. The Italian Cultural Committee on the one hand is designed to promote
the intercultural exchange between Germans and Italians living in Germany and
on the other hand to assist Italian emigrants with their social and cultural
integration. Apart from preparing the information events taking place
regularly, I was also responsible for the bookkeeping. I had to prepare tax
returns and balance sheets for both German and Italian authorities. Moreover, I
had to act as a simultaneous interpreter at conferences and meetings.

During my semester abroad, at the University of Genoa I also learnt to
prove myself in a variety of communicative contexts. In the process, I learnt
by experience that, as in my case, in addition to a sound language training,
above all intercultural knowledge is the prerequisite to a translation that
reflects the original both linguistically and stylistically.

In the marketing sector, I translated, all kinds of texts for both of my
language pairs ITA>GER and ENG>GER
(corporate brochures for publicity
agencies, consultancies, authorities and departments, tourist guides for
publishing houses, advertising material for resorts and informational materials
for cruise lines).

I localised the websites for a well-known Italian telestation and
several enterprises which are operating in the traditional Italian food
industry in the language pair ITA>GER. In the language pair ENG>GER I
localised marketing tools for a leading PR agency.

The tourism sector is my main field of expertise in my language pair ITA>GER. On
behalf of an Italian publisher, I translated the travel guides from Milan,
London and New York. In the language pair ENG>GER I mainly translated travel
catalogs and travel brochures in this subject area.

I have chosen the sample translations for my profile at Proz.com not only because of the great number of technical terms
which can only be used if one commands the appropriate specialist knowledge,
but also because of their stylistic subtleties that play an important part in
the translation of specialist texts and require an appropriate routine.
