Bourgogne gourmande
Dès qu'on pénètre en Bourgogne, on veut s'y prélasser, adopter le rythme
des escargots de la région et se promener de caves en "climats", de villes
en villages avec ses châteaux nichés au coeur des vignobles, ses maisons
de pierres blondes poussant en grappes le long de la Saône.
Entre Tournus et Beaune, on prend la route qui traverse les clos et chante
les grands crus: Santenay, petite ville coquette aux eaux bienfaisantes,
Chassagne-Montrachet et Puligny-Montrachet dont le coteau se couvre à
perte de vue d'une chape somptueuse de ceps et de pampres, Meursault dont
la flèche médiévale de son église semble surveiller la Côte des Blancs,
Pommard, tassée au pied des coteaux avec ses vieilles maisons romanes et
ses châteaux ...
Entre Beaune et Dijon, il n'y a que vin, caves et viniculteurs. Adoptez
les petits hôtels de la région. Le propriétaire a toujours un parent qui a
un vignoble, une bonne cave et il vous conduira lui-même sous les voûtes
de pierre, pour prendre avec vous, assis sur un tonneau, le verre de
l'amitié. Ce sont les meilleurs moments, ceux qu'on parle de la récolte,
des réminescences des bonnes années et des anecdotes de terroir.
Sur les côteaux qui dominent la plaine de la Saône, des bourgs opulents et
coquets aux noms de grands crus se succèdent: Aloxe-Corton dont le nom et
la réputation semblent remonter à l'empereur Othon, Nuits-St-Georges,
Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin ...
Remontons cette rivière dolente. La Bourgogne percée de fleuves et de
canaux nous invite au voyage ...
Auxerre
Cité médiévale aux bords de l'Yonne, avec ses maisons à colombages
À voir ... la cathédrale St-&Etienne XIIIe et XIVe s. avec ses
vitraux dans crypte romane, ses fresques, l'abbatiale St-Germain XIIe et
XIVe s. - ses cryptes carolingiennes s'ornent des plus anciennes fresques
connues en France (IXe s.), la Tour de l'Horloge, etc.
Beaune
Beaune mérite qu'on s'y arrête - carrefour de chemins préhistoriques,
romains et médiévaux, résidence préférée des Ducs de Bourgogne, c'est une
ville d'art avec ses remparts couverts de verdure, ses vieilles demeures.
Dijon
La Bourgogne faite ville, où tout y est bon et beau! C'est un plaisir de
flâner dans les rues piétonnes, de guetter le son du Jacquemart et
d'apercevoir les tuiles vernissées derrière les hôtels particuliers. Une
des premières villes d'art de France, elle garde encore l'empreinte du
mécénat grandiose des ducs de Valois.
Mâcon
Au sud de Tournus, Mâcon affiche avec une profusion de fleurs son
caractère souriant de ville la plus méridionale de la Bourgogne. Elle
tourne, vers le soleil levant, une belle et large façade fluviale ponctuée
de quelques clochers, vers laquelle conduit depuis la Bresse, le vénérable
pont Saint-Laurent. Ici le Pouilly chante dans les vignobles sur les
pentes exposées au levant, à côté des châteaux médiévaux, des églises
romanes autour desquels s'éparpillent des maisons aux tuiles rondes.
À voir ...la maison en bois d'époque Renaissance rue Dombey, le musée
Lamartine, le musée municipal des Ursulines et l'hôpital construit en 1770
présente un ensemble de faïences d'époque Louis XIV
Nuits-St-Georges
C'est la capitale du célèbre vignoble de la Côte de Nuits
Pouilly-sur-Loir
Petite ville du Val de Loire renommée pour sa gastronomie et ses vignobles
Tournus
C'est à ici que commence véritablement le voyage avec sa fabuleuse abbaye
de Saint-Philibert aux pierres roses qui tirent sur l'ocre au coucher du
soleil. Ville natale de Greuze, c'est le plus ancien des centres
monastiques de France conservant encore de charmantes maisons anciennes
bordant la place Lacretelle et la place Carnot.

Vougeot
Le célèbre château du Clos de Vougeot construit par les moines cisterciens
abrite aujourd'hui le siège de la Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.

Burgundy for the gourmet
From the moment you set foot in Burgundy, where châteaux nestle at the heart of vineyards and houses built of pale golden stone appear in clusters along the banks of the river Saône, you will want to linger. Adopt the rhythm of the region’s snails and stroll gently around the cellars and vineyards, or take an unhurried drive through the many towns and villages.
Between Tournus and Beaune take the road that makes its way through the vineyards and conjures up the region’s great wines: Santenay, a small pretty town renowned for its spa, Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet whose slopes are covered as far as the eye can see in a magnificent cloak of vine stocks and branches, Mersault where the medieval church spire appears to keep watch over the white wine grapes and Pommard, tucked down at the foot of the slopes with its châteaux and old Romanesque houses.
Between Beaune and Dijon there is nothing but wine, cellars and wine producers. Take advantage of the region’s small hotels. The owner is bound to have parents who own a vineyard with a good cellar and he will personally take you on a guided tour beneath the stone archways and maybe sit on a barrel and drink a toast to friendship with you. These are the best moments, when conversation turns to the harvest, memories of good years gone by and stories of the land.
On the slopes overlooking the plains of the river Saône, affluent, charming towns bearing the names of grands crus follow hot on each other’s heels: Aloxe-Corton (whose name and reputation seem to date back as far as Otto the Great), Nuits-St-Georges, Vosne-Romanée, Vougeot, Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin, to name but a few. Let’s go back up this slow-moving river. The Burgundy that is punctuated by rivers and canals invites us to travel………..
Auxerre
Auxerre, with its half-timbered houses is a medieval city on the banks of the River Yonne. Well worth visiting is the Cathédrale St.Etienne which dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries and is renowned for its stained-glass windows in the Romanesque crypt, and its frescoes. You should also see the Abbaye St-Germain (12th and 14th century) whose Carolingian crypts are decorated with the oldest known frescoes in France (9th century), and the Tour de l’Horloge.
Beaune
It is well worth stopping in Beaune, one of France’s officially designated villes d’art, to see its original ramparts, grown thick with moss and vines, and its many ancient dwellings. The town is a crossroads for pre-historic, Roman and medieval influences and was the preferred residence of the Dukes of Burgundy.
Dijon
Dijon, where everything is good and beautiful, is the epitome of Burgundy! It is a pleasure to wander the pedestrianized streets, to listen out for the sound of the Jacquemart clock striking the hour and to catch a glimpse of the multicoloured glazed tiles that are found on roofs at the rear of the 16th century mansions. One of the foremost cities for French art, Dijon still bears the mark of the extravagant patronage of the Dukes of Valois.
Mâcon
To the south of Tournus lies Mâcon, the southernmost town of Burgundy, flaunting its welcoming character in a profusion of flowers. The great Pont Saint Laurent will lead you from the Bresse region to Mâcon, whose beautiful, wide riverside facade, dotted with bell towers, faces the rising sun. Here, the Pouilly-Fuissé vines thrive in vineyards on east-facing slopes, beside medieval castles and Romanesque churches, around which are dotted houses with curved Roman roof tiles.
Worth visiting are the Wooden House from the Renaissance period in rue Dombey, the Musée Lamartine, the Musée des Ursulines, and the hospital, which was built in 1770 and houses a collection of pottery from the Loius XIV era.
Nuits-St -Georges
This village is the capital of the famous Côte de Nuits wine producing area.
Pouilly-sur-Loir
Pouilly-sur-Loire is a small town in the Val de Loire renowned for its gastronomy and its vineyards.
Tournus
Tournus is where the journey truly begins with the fabulous Abbaye de Saint Philibert, built of a pink stone that turns an almost ochre in colour at sunset. Not only is it the birthplace of Greuze, it is also the oldest of France’s monastic centres to still have the delightful old houses that line place Lacretelle and place Carnoy. The Cloître St-Ardain and the Hôtel-Dieu are worth a visit.
Vougeot
At Vougeot you will find the famous Château du Clos du Vougeot, with its walled vineyard built by Cistercian monks, which today houses the headquarters of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.
