The center for the popularization of the Russian and world astronautics – The Memorial Museum of Cosmonautics – is located under the Monument to the Conquerors of Space that takes a form of a skyward rocket. The monument, made of titanium, became a symbol of the dawn of the Space Age.
The Museum displays many exhibits: the first spacesuits, the first artificial Earth satellites , and spacecrafts that were designed for exploration of the Moon and Solar System planets.
Visitors can also meet space pioneers and the most famous dogs of the Soviet Union Belka and Strelka, take a look into a real Soyuz spacecraft, visit the Mir orbital space station and learn to pilot the spacecraft aboard the Soyuz-TMA flight simulator.
In the Museum, visitors can try space food that was produced by the Biryulyovskiy Experimental Plant and purchase bags, notebooks, thermal mugs, thematic badges and many other souvenirs.

Выставка детского художественного творчества «Космический калейдоскоп. Взгляд Ребёнка», организована Мемориальным музеем космонавтики совместно с Благотворительным фондом «Взгляд ребёнка» и представляет лучшие работы участников различных творческие конкурсов, проводимых фондом.
Интерес детей к художественным конкурсам, связанным с космической тематикой, не ослабевает, потому что участие в них даёт возможность заглянуть в будущее, фантазировать, познавая тайны загадочного космоса. Очень важно, что юных авторов интересует не только красота и необычность окружающего мира, но они пытаются постичь и законы мироздания, ощущая себя частью бесконечного мира.
Из детских работ, как в цветном калейдоскопе, складывается воображаемая картина Вселенной – яркая, противоречивая и очень притягательная. Дети в этих произведениях передают не только красоту, но и свои сокровенные чувства и мысли.
В экспозицию выставки вошли работы, созданные учащимися детских художественных школ, школ искусств, а также других организаций, связанных с детским творчеством, из Москвы, Московской области и других регионов Российской Федерации.

From children's works, like in a color kaleidoscope, an imaginary picture of the Universe is made up – a bright , contradictory and very attractive one. Children in their works depict not only the beauty, but also their own innermost feelings and thoughts.
The exhibition includes works that were created by students of children's art schools, schools of painting, as well as other organizations related to children's crafts from Moscow, the Moscow region and other regions of the Russian Federation.

На самом деле, истоки отечественного ракетостроения уходят вглубь веков, ещё в допетровские времена, и несколько поколений наших предшественников шаг за шагом продвигались по сложному и тернистому пути создания и совершенствования простейших ракет. Именно они, неизвестные большинству – главные герои выставки "Ракетных дел мастера". Вопреки обстоятельствам, чаще всего на собственные средства, они вели исследования и эксперименты, ставшие надёжным фундаментом для создания ракет-носителей, проложивших человечеству путь в космос. Среди лучших сынов отечества – А.Д. Засядко, К.А. Шильдер, К.И. Константинов, П.П. Ковалевский и многие другие.
На выставке впервые экспонируются уникальные свидетельства истории развития ракетного дела в России, предоставленные ведущими музеями, архивами и библиотеками страны.

Translation - English Craftsmen of Missilery
It has been said that missiles and rocket technology were born in the twentieth century. But in fact, the origins of domestic rocketry go deep into the centuries, to times even before Peter the Great, and several generations of our predecessors made their way, step by step, along the complex and thorny path of creating and refining the elementary missiles. Those men, unknown to the majority, are the main characters of the exhibition "Craftsmen of Missilery." Against all odds, often on their own funds, they conducted research and experiments, which became a reliable foundation for the creation of carrier rockets that paved the way for humanity to space. Among the best sons of the Fatherland are A.D. Zasyadko, K.A. Shilder, K.I. Konstantinov, P.P. Kovalevsky and many others.
For the first time, the exhibition displays unique evidence and artifacts of the rocket development history in Russia. The exhibits were provided by leading museums, archives and libraries of the country.

Первый космический аппарат, направленный в сторону Марса.
Запущена 1 ноября 1962 г. ракетой-носителем «Молния».
Основные задачи запуска: проведение длительных исследований космического пространства при полёте к Марсу, установление радиосвязи на межпланетном расстоянии, исследование Марса и околомарсианского космического пространства с пролётной траектории.
В полёте поддерживалась ориентация на Солнце для освещения солнечных батарей.
Полёт станции «Марс-1» дал новые данные о физических свойствах космического пространства между орбитами Земли и Марса, об интенсивности космического излучения, напряжённости магнитных полей Земли и межпланетной среды, о потоках ионизованного газа, идущего от Солнца.
Сближение с Марсом наступило 19 июня 1963 г. (на расстоянии 197 тыс. км от Земли), после чего межпланетная станция вышла на гелиоцентрическую орбиту.

Translation - Russian Mars-1 automated station
The first spacecraft in history to be launched towards Mars.
Mars-1 was launched into space on November 1, 1962, by the Molniya carrier rocket.
Main objectives of the launch: long-term studies of outer space during the flight to Mars, interplanetary radio communication tests, exploration of Mars and near-Mars space from a flyby.
During the flight, orientation to the Sun was maintained to illuminate solar panels.
The flight of the Mars -1 automated station helped to collect new data on the physical properties of space between the orbits of Earth and Mars, cosmic radiation intensity, magnetic fields of the Earth and interplanetary medium intensity, and ionized gas flux coming from the Sun.
The Mars flyby took place on June 19, 1963 (at a distance of 197 thousand km from the Earth), after which the space probe entered a heliocentric orbit.

Designed by: Special Design Bureau number 1 (OKB-1) under the direction of the OKB-1 Chief Designer Sergei Pavlovich Korolev.
