However Dan wants to test two prototypes before finalizing the design. For the standing long jump, a smaller R-C car will deploy from the main car. The launch system will consist of two sets of pipes. The smaller pipes will slide into the larger pipes and be spring loaded with surgical tubing. When triggered the smaller pipes will push into the ground, making the robot jump.

Source text - English As competition and pressure on profit margins grow, fashion manufacturers are increasingly looking wider for inspiration on how to maintain a competitive business. With its roots in automotive manufacturing and largely developed from the Toyota Production System (TPS), “LEAN Manufacturing” is one of the current strategies being adopted in our industry.
A number of companies, such as sportswear giants Nike and adidas have been promoting LEAN in their supply chains since the late 1990s.
In this document, we consider ‘LEAN’ concepts, some of the fundamental barriers to achieving LEAN and the vital role of planning in achieving the required levels of visibility and coordination to support LEAN.
Steps to becoming LEANER
For many LEAN followers the first steps are to identify and eliminate waste (MUDA in Japanese) from the manufacturing process.
WASTE becomes a very broad concept and can fall into 8 categories:
3.1 Defects - Making products that are not suitable for sale or require reprocessing to bring them up to standard. This is the conventional ‘narrow’ definition of waste.
3.2 Transport - An activity that moves materials or products more than is required.
3.3 Waiting - Non-productive time, people waiting for processes to finish or material to arrive at their workplace.
3.4 Inventory - Raw materials or Work In Progress (WIP), standing, waiting for further actions to be carried.
3.5 Extra Processes - Activities carried out on materials/products that do not add value.
3.6 Movement - Unnecessary movement of people to get materials or tools.
3.7 Over-production - Producing items that have not been ordered or that are made earlier than the required delivery date.
3.8 Knowledge disconnection - When suppliers and customers are not linked with information to support their interaction - waste occurs as businesses are unable to adjust to each other’s requirements.
It can be seen from the different categories of waste that companies must look at a much bigger picture and not just the factory-floor to become leaner.
Once waste has been identified, it can then be measured and this helps in prioritizing the areas to tackle first. Then, through a combination of common sense, industrial engineering and ‘lean tools’ the process can be modified to reduce waste.

Nhiều ông lớn trong ngành sản xuất giầy dép như Nike và Adidas đã và đang áp dụng nguyên tắc TINH GỌN vào chuỗi cung ứng của mình từ cuối những năm 1900s.
Trong tài liệu này, chúng ta sẽ cùng xem xét các khái niệm về ‘TINH GỌN’, một số trở ngại cơ bản khi thực hiện sản xuất TINH GỌN và vai trò quan trọng của công đoạn lập kế hoạch nhằm đạt được mức độ trực quan và phối hợp chặt chẽ theo yêu cầu nhằm bổ trợ cho nguyên tắc sản xuất TINH GỌN.
Các bước để trở nên TINH GỌN hơn
Với nhiều người đang theo đuổi nguyên tắc TINH GỌN những bước đầu tiên cần làm đó là nhận biết và loại bỏ lãng phí (tiếng Nhật là MUDA) khỏi quá trình sản xuất.
LÃNG PHÍ là một khái niệm rộng và được chia làm 8 loại:
3.1 Sản phẩm lỗi - Các sản phẩm được tạo ra không phù hợp với yêu cầu kinh doanh hoặc phải sản xuất lại để phù hợp với tiêu chuẩn. Đây là khái niệm hẹp và thông dụng về lãng phí.
3.2 Vận chuyển - Hoạt động di chuyển nguyên vật liệu hoặc sản phẩm nhiều hơn yêu cầu.
3.3 Chờ đợi - Thời gian nhàn rỗi, nhân công chờ đợi quy trình hoàn tất hay nguyên vật liệu.
3.4 Tồn kho - Nguyên vật liệu thô hoặc Bán thành phẩm (WIP), tồn đọng, chờ đợi để đưa vào công đoạn tiếp theo.
3.5 Quy trình rườm rà - Các hoạt động được thực hiện trên nguyên vật liệu/sản phẩm mà không mang lai giá trị.
3.6 Dịch chuyển - Sự dịch chuyển không cần thiết của nhân công để lấy nguyên vật liệu hoặc công cụ.
3.7 Sản xuất dư thừa - Sản xuất các sản phẩm không được đặt hàng hoặc trước ngày giao hàng theo yêu cầu.
3.8 Gián đoạn thông tin - Khi nhà cung cấp và khách hàng không được kết nối với thông tin hỗ trợ sự tương tác của hai bên - sẽ xảy ra lãng phí vì cả hai bên đều không thể điều chỉnh theo yêu cầu của bên kia.
Từ các loại hình lãng phí khác nhau chúng ta có thể rút ra một thực tế các doanh nghiệp phải xem xét một bức tranh rộng lớn hơn rất nhiều so với bối cảnh công ty để có thể trở nên tinh gọn hơn.
Một khi đã nhận biết được lãng phí, chúng ta hoàn toàn có thể đo lường và tập trung xử lý những vùng cần ưu tiên. Sau đó, bằng sự kết hợp các kỹ thuật công nghiệp phù hợp và các ‘công cụ tinh gọn’ chúng ta có thể điều chỉnh quy trình nhằm giảm thiểu lãng phí.
