A little bit about me
My name is Sinead Barnett and I am an Irish student studying in University College Cork, Ireland. I have always been interested in languages and foreign culture, which is reflected in my education and travels.
Unergraduate Degree
I received my Bachelors Degree in University College Cork, Ireland in Language and Cultural Studies. The languages I studied were Spanish (major) and French (minor). With Spanish I was also able to take a module in Portuguese language. As part of the course I spent one year in a Spanish University on the ERASMUS Program. I was in the University of Alicante from 2011 to 2012. I then returned to complete my degree. I completed this course in May 2013.
Result: 2H1
Award: I received an Academic Scholarship from the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences (CACSSS) to continue to my studies at University College Cork with a Masters Degree.
Postgraduate Degree
I decided to enroll in a Masters Degree in Translation Studies. I chose Spanish as my source language and English, as it is my native language, as my target language. I began this course in September 2014
Modules: Translation Software / Translation Practice Classes / Mock Translation Project / Translation Theory / The Use of Professional Spanish / Developing Research Skills and the Use Resources
Thesis
Also, as part of this course I am doing a thesis based on the reception of translation of literature written for children. The submission date for this dissertation of October 2014.
Language School
In June 2014 I spent a week in the Cervantes Language School in Malaga, Spain. I like to keep my level of language high and so I feel it is necessary to frequently return to Spain or another Spanish speaking country to maintain a good standard of Spanish.
