Bruno Touschek è stato uno dei grandi fisici della seconda metà del novecento che ha utilizzato la sua conoscenza della fisica teorica e l’esperienza fatta in Germania con Wideroe per concepire, proporre e costruire la prima macchina acceleratrice di materia e antimateria e portare una maggior conoscenza del mondo in cui viviamo.
Nato a Vienna nel 1921, brillante negli studi, all’ultimo anno di liceo fu costretto ad abbandonare la scuola perché sua madre era ebrea. Riuscì comunque a diplomarsi e iscriversi all’università, che ben presto, sempre per motivi razziali, dovette lasciare. Grazie ad alcuni amici continuò gli studi ad Amburgo dove nessuno conosceva le sue origini, adattandosi a fare diversi lavori contemporaneamente per poter sopravvivere. Nel 1943 fu invitato da Rolf Wideroe per cooperare nella costruzione del betatrone.
Quando Touschek fu arrestato dalla Gestapo nel 1945, Wideroe lo andò a trovare in prigione e durante queste visite concepì e sviluppò importanti teorie sulle fisica delle macchine acceleratrici di particelle.
Scampato al campo di concentramento nel 1946 si laureò all’università di Göttingen e cominciò a lavorare al Max Planck Institut.
Nel febbraio del 1947 si trasferì a Glasgow dove ottenne una borsa di studio presso il Dipartimento della Ricerca Scientifica e Industriale lavorando con un altro grande studioso di macchine acceleratrici, P. Dee. In seguito fu nominato Lettore Ufficiale in Filosofia della Natura all’università di Glasgow, posto che mantenne fino al 1952 quando si trasferì a Roma dove aveva una zia, Ada. Cominciò così a frequentare l’ambiente scientifico romano e, quando ottenne un posto come ricercatore all’Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, decise di rimanere in Italia in modo permanente.
Tre anni dopo tornò a Glasgow per sposare Elspeth Yonge, figlia di un noto professore di zoologia dell’Università di Glasgow, e dalla quale ebbe due figli.
Il 7 marzo del 1960 Touschek tenne un seminario presso i Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati dimostrando per la prima volta l’importanza di una studio sistematico sulle collisioni elettrone positrone e della possibilità di realizzarle costruendo un unico anello magnetico nel quale pacchetti di elettroni e positroni circolassero alla stessa energia ma in versi opposti. Scontrandosi frontalmente particelle e antiparticelle si sarebbero annichilate dando luogo ad una totale trasformazione di materia in energia.
In meno di un anno e con la collaborazione di Carlo Bernardini, Gianfranco Corazza e Giorgio Ghigo, Touschek realizzò il prototipo della macchina acceleratrice materia antimateria che chiamò AdA (Anello di Accumulazione). Fu una fortuita coincidenza che il nome della macchina corrispondesse a quello della zia di Touschek, zia che gli fu molto vicino soprattutto quando si stabilì in Italia.

Bruno Touschek was one of the great physicists of the second half of the twentieth century. He used his understanding of theoretical physics and his experience gained in Germany with Wideroe to invent, propose, and construct the first matter-antimatter accelerator, opening the door to a deeper understanding of the world in which we live.
Touschek was born in Vienna in 1921. Although a brilliant student, during his last year of secondary school, he was forced to abandon his studies because his mother was Jewish. This obstacle notwithstanding, he managed to graduate and enroll for university studies, which he was again forced to abandon in short order for racial reasons. With the help of friends, he continued his studies in Hamburg, where no one knew his origins, taking on various jobs simultaneously in order to make a living.
In 1943, he was invited by Rolf Wideroe to participate in the construction of the betatron. When the Gestapo arrested Touschek in 1945, Wideroe visited him in prison, and during these visits, Touschek conceived of and developed important theories concerning the physics of particle accelerators.
After his release from the concentration camp, in 1946, Touschek graduated from the University of Gottingen and began working at the Max Planck Institut. In February 1947, he moved to Glasgow, where he obtained a fellowship at the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, working with P. Dee, another renowned expert on accelerating machines. Thereafter, Touschek was nominated Official Lecturer in Natural Philosophy at the University of Glasgow, a post that he held until 1952, when he moved to Rome, where he had an aunt, Ada. He began to spend time in scientific circles in Rome, and, when he obtained a position as a research scientist at the INFN, he decided to remain in Italy permanently. Three years later, he returned to Glasgow to marry the daughter of a noted zoology professor at the University, Elspeth Yonge, with whom he had two children.
On March 7, 1960, Touschek held a seminar at the Frascati National Laboratories to demonstrate the importance of systematic studies of electron-positron collisions and to illustrate that such collisions could be achieved by constructing a single magnetic ring inside which bunches of electrons and positrons would circulate in opposite directions at the same energy. In head-on collisions, particle and antiparticle would annihilate each other, giving rise to a total transformation of matter into energy.
In less than a year and with the collaboration of Carlo Bernardini, Gianfranco Corazza, and Giorgio Ghigo, Touschek built the prototype of the matter-antimatter collider he named AdA (Anello di Accumulazione). By happy coincidence, the name of the machine was the same as that of his aunt, who was very close to him, especially after his move to Italy.

Natura giuridica e storia:
L'Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare fu istituito nel 1951 con un decreto del Presidente del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) e riordinato nel 1952 con un ulteriore decreto del Presidente del CNR.
Nel 1957 l'INFN è passato sotto l'amministrazione del Comitato Nazionale per le Ricerche Nucleari (CNRN), diventato poi, nel 1960, Comitato Nazionale per l'Energia Nucleare (CNEN). Nel 1967 l'INFN ha ottenuto un primo riconoscimento sul piano giuridico generale per mezzo di un decreto del Ministro della Pubblica Istruzione, emanato di concerto con i Ministri dell'Industria e della Ricerca Scientifica (d.i. 26 luglio 1967), che ha definito chiaramente i compiti istituzionali dell'Istituto, e le attività dei suoi organi direttivi (Presidente, Giunta Esecutiva e Consiglio Direttivo).
Con la legge 15 dicembre 1971, n. 1240 di ristrutturazione del CNEN, l'INFN è stato riconosciuto ente di diritto pubblico con bilancio autonomo. Con la legge 9 marzo 1989 n. 168, relativa alla istituzione del Ministero della Università e della Ricerca Scientifica e Tecnologica, all'Istituto, è stata riconosciuta autonomia scientifica, organizzativa, finanziaria e contabile e la possibilità di darsi un ordinamento autonomo, nel rispetto delle proprie finalità istituzionali, con propri regolamenti.
Con l’emanazione del d.p.c.m. del 26 aprile 1990 l’Istituto è stato ritenuto ente di alto rilievo, ai sensi dell'art. 20, della legge 20 marzo 1975 n. 70.
Attualmente, ai sensi dell'art. 33 della Costituzione e dell'art. 8 della legge 9 maggio 1989, n. 168, l'Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare è ente pubblico nazionale di ricerca, a carattere non strumentale ed ha autonomia scientifica, organizzativa, contabile e finanziaria.
Con l'emanazione del Regolamento Generale dell'INFN, pubblicato nel Supplemento ordinario n. 37 alla Gazzetta Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana n. 48 del 27 febbraio 2001 e successive modificazioni, l'Istituto si è dotato di un ordinamento autonomo, in ottemperanza a quanto disposto dal citato art. 8 della Legge n. 168/1989.
Finalità e funzioni:
Ai sensi dell’art. 2 del Regolamento Generale l'Istituto promuove, coordina ed effettua la ricerca scientifica nel campo della fisica nucleare, subnucleare, astroparticellare e delle interazioni fondamentali, nonché la ricerca e lo sviluppo tecnologico necessari all'attività in tali settori.
L'istituto, inoltre:
a) promuove e partecipa a collaborazioni, stipula convenzioni e contratti in materia di studio, ricerca e servizi con enti, società ed imprese pubbliche e private, nazionali, internazionali, comunitari e stranieri;
b) partecipa ad organismi scientifici e tecnici di altri Paesi o comunque a carattere internazionale, operanti nell'ambito dei settori di sua competenza;
c) stipula accordi di collaborazione scientifica con industrie nazionali e può mettere a loro disposizione conoscenze, mezzi strumentali e brevetti;
d) promuove la costituzione e partecipa a consorzi, fondazioni, società anche internazionali, stranieri e comunitari, che abbiano come scopo lo sviluppo delle ricerche, le prestazioni di servizi ad esse attinenti o il trasferimento e la valorizzazione di conoscenze, nei campi di sua competenza ed in campi interdisciplinari e di interesse applicativo;
e) promuove il trasferimento delle conoscenze e delle tecnologie acquisite;
f) promuove e provvede alla formazione scientifica e alla diffusione della cultura nei settori istituzionali anche in collaborazione con le università; può conferire borse di studio e premi.

Attività:
L’Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare è, come detto, dedicato allo studio dei costituenti fondamentali della materia e svolge attività di ricerca, teorica e sperimentale, nei campi della fisica nucleare, subnucleare, astroparticellare e delle interazioni fondamentali, sviluppando la ricerca e lo sviluppo tecnologico necessari all’attività in tali settori.
A questo, che si può considerare il mandato istituzionale, si affiancano attività ulteriori, quali il trasferimento delle conoscenze, metodologie e tecniche strumentali sviluppate nello svolgimento della propria attività, verso settori interdisciplinari e di interesse applicativo - quali la medicina, i beni culturali, l’energia e l’ambiente – e verso il mondo dell’industria.
L’Istituto infine promuove e provvede alla formazione scientifica e alla diffusione della cultura nei settori istituzionali.
A questi compiti l’Istituto assolve operando in stretta connessione con le Università. L’azione dell’Istituto è da sempre caratterizzata da una marcata connotazione interuniversitaria (ed internazionale) nella programmazione, nello sviluppo e nel coordinamento delle attività.
Presso l'Istituto sono in corso esperimenti di fisica di alte energie e di fisica dei nuclei presso acceleratori siti nei Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati, Legnaro e del Sud e presso i maggiori Laboratori del mondo (CERN, Fermilab, Desy, etc..).
Per lo studio della fisica e delle interazioni fondamentali senza uso di acceleratori, sono attive, in particolare presso i Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, ricerche sulla radiazione cosmica e sui neutrini solari, e su decadimenti rari della materia.
In campo tecnologico ed interdisciplinare sono in corso programmi di ricerca e sviluppo in superconduttività, elettronica, fisica e tecnologia dei semiconduttori, dei rivelatori e degli acceleratori, biofisica e fisica medica, tecnologie criogeniche e dell'alto vuoto, meccanica speciale e di precisione, trattamenti superficiali, reti informatiche ad alta velocità, calcolo ad alte prestazioni.
Le ricerche di carattere fondamentale svolte dall'INFN sono accompagnate, per esigenze sperimentali, da sviluppi tecnologici assai avanzati che hanno un’importante ricaduta a beneficio dei laboratori e dell'industria quali ad esempio le ricerche nel campo dell'elettronica, dei rivelatori, degli acceleratori di particelle, dell'informatica, della superconduttività. Un secondo tipo di ricaduta è dato dall’utilizzazione in molti campi della ricerca scientifica e tecnologica della luce di sincrotrone e di fasci di particelle prodotti da acceleratori installati nei laboratori INFN.

Institutional Role, Activity, and Organization of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare
History and Legal Status
The Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics) was founded in 1951 by decree of the President of the Consiglio Nazionale di Ricerca (CNR, the National Research Council) and reorganized by subsequent decree in 1952.
In 1957, the INFN was placed under the administration of the Comitato Nazionale per le Ricerche Nucleari (CNRN, the National Commission for Nuclear Research), which in 1960 became the Comitato Nazionale per l'Energia Nucleare (CNEN, the National Commission for Nuclear Energy). In 1967, the legal status of the INFN was recognized by decree of the Ministry of Public Education, issued jointly with the Ministries of Industry and Scientific Research (D.I. 26 July 1967), which clearly defined the institutional role of the INFN and the functions of its executive bodies (President, Executive Board, and Council of Directors).
With the passage of Law No. 1240 of 15 December 1971 concerning the reorganization of the CNEN, the INFN was officially recognized as a public entity with an autonomous budget. Law No. 168 of 9 May 1989, which established the Ministry of Universities, Scientific Research, and Technology, provided the INFN with scientific, administrative, and financial independence, as well as the right to define its own regulations in order to carry out its institutional role.
By decree of the President of the Council of Ministers (D.P.C.M. 26 April 1990), the INFN was recognized as a public entity of major importance by the criteria of Law No. 70 of 20 March 1975.
Currently, by the provisions of Art. 33 of the Italian Constitution and Art. 8 of Law No. 168 of 9 May 1989, the INFN is a national public research institute with scientific, administrative, and financial independence.
With the publication of the General Regulations of the INFN in the Gazzetta Ufficiale della Repubblica Italiana (the official register of the Italian Government, Supplemento Ordinario 37 of issue 48, 27 February 2001), the INFN officially adopted internal regulations for self-governance in accordance with the provisions of Art. 8 of Law No. 168 of 9 May 1989.
Mission Statement
By Art. 2 of the General Regulations, the INFN promotes, coordinates, and carries out scientific research in the fields of nuclear physics, subnuclear physics, particle astrophysics, and the physics of the fundamental interactions, as well as the technological research and development necessary for activities in those fields.
Moreover, the INFN:
a) Promotes and participates in collaborations, stipulates agreements and contracts in matters of study, research, and services with public agencies and private enterprises, both domestic and international (European and extra-European);
b) Participates in foreign or international technical and scientific organizations that operate in its fields of interest.
c) Stipulates agreements for scientific cooperation with domestic industry, possibly making available knowledge, infrastructure, and/or patents.
d) Promotes the establishment of and participates in consortiums, foundations, and similar bodies, domestic and international, European and extra-European, whose purpose is the advancement of research, the furnishing of related services, or the transfer and promotion of knowledge in fields of interest and in interdisciplinary areas with potential applications;
e) Promotes the transfer of knowledge and technology acquired;
f) Promotes and provides for higher education in the sciences and the diffusion of scientific culture in fields of interest, including in collaboration with universities; may establish scholarships and prizes.
The INFN is overseen by the Ministry of Education, Universities, and Research.

Activities
As stated above, the INFN is dedicated to the study of the fundamental constituents of matter and undertakes theoretical and experimental research in the fields of nuclear physics, subnuclear physics, particle astrophysics, and the physics of the fundamental interactions, as well as the technological research and development necessary for activities in those fields.
In addition to its institutional mandate, the INFN also carries out activities related to the transfer of knowledge, methods, and instrumental techniques developed in the course of its normal activities towards interdisciplinary sectors and applications, such as medicine, artistic and cultural preservation, and energy and the environment, and towards the world of industry. In addition, the INFN promotes and provides for higher education in the sciences and the diffusion of scientific culture in fields of interest.
The INFN undertakes these activities in close cooperation with the university sector. The activities of the INFN have historically been characterized by planning, development, and coordination among different universities (and in different countries).
The INFN participates in high-energy and nuclear physics experiments at accelerators at the Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati (Frascati National Laboratories), the Laboratori Nazionali di Legnaro (Legnaro National Laboratories), and the Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (Southern National Laboratories), as well as at many of the world’s major research laboratories, such as CERN, Fermilab, and DESY. The INFN is also active in the study of the physics of the fundamental interactions without the use of accelerators. At the Laboratori Nazionali di Gran Sasso (Gran Sasso National Laboratories) research is conducted on cosmic radiation, solar neutrinos, and rare decays. In technological and interdisciplinary fields, the INFN has active research and development programs in superconductivity, electronics, semiconductor physics and technology, detectors and accelerators, biophysics and medical physics, cryogenics and high-vacuum technologies, specialty and high-precision manufacturing, surface treatments, high-speed networks, and high-performance computing.
The fundamental research carried out by the INFN requires the development of advanced technologies with significant benefits both to the Laboratories and to industry, for example, in the fields of electronics, radiation detectors, particle accelerators, information technology, and superconductivity. In addition, synchrotron light and particle beams produced by accelerators at INFN laboratories are used in many fields of scientific and technological research.

The passionate search for the Philosopher's Stone centers on a stone door in Piazza Vittorio, Rome, that still challenges the travellers’ curiosity. The novel tells two parallel and interwoven stories. The former begins in the seventeenth century, when, in an attempt to create a recipe for immortality, the Marquis Massimiliano Palombara has some mysterious alchemical symbols – still visible – engraved on that same door and meets characters like Queen Christina of Sweden and Athanasius Kircher. The latter story, almost four hundred years later, tells of Cristina, a researcher who follows the old tracks and tries to unravel their mystery with courage and determination. The plot develops like a game of mirrors where past and present reflect each other, a chess match against destiny, equal parts treatise on alchemy and psychological investigation, with a surprising reversal of roles in the ‘theater of the world’. Each clue helps to solve the riddle that the Marquis handed down to posterity with an inscrutable smile. For, if the truth is unspeakable, nothing is brighter than a lie.

Per questo esordio assunse il nome d’arte Maya (si chiamava Eleanora), un nome legato all’acqua, alla luce e al concetto di “illusione”, mutuato dall’omonima divinità induista e buddista di molti paesi asiatici . La sua breve e intensa vita (è morta a New York, poco più che quarantenne, nel 1961) la condusse da Kijev (suo luogo di nascita, nel 1917) agli Stati Uniti (vi emigrò con la famiglia nel 1922) e ad Haiti, dove girò un filmato di oltre quattro ore, scrisse un importante libro antropologico (Divine Horsemen. The Living Gods of Haiti) e divenne quasi mambo (sacerdotessa vudù). Alla fine del decennio la sua militanza virava verso l’arte, passando dalla politica radicale ai «radicali» della poesia moderna (Baudelaire, Eliot, Pound), con l’aspirazione a diventare poetessa.. Agli inizi degli anni ‘40, lavorando come fact-totum per la coreografa e pioniera della danza afroamericana Katherine Dunham, poteva coniugare la passione per la danza e quella per l’antropologia. A partire dal 1943 si votava alla causa del cinema indipendente e sperimentale, come filmmaker e teorica. Dal 1947 si dedicò, in qualità di studiosa e adepta, alla valorizzazione e divulgazione della cultura e del vudù haitiani.

For this debut she took the stage name of Maya (she was Eleanora in real life), a name linked to water, light and to the concept of “illusion”, borrowed from some homonymous Hindu and Buddhist deities in many Asian countries. Her short and intense life (she died in New York in 1961, just over forty) brought her from Kiev (her birthplace in 1917) to the United States (where she emigrated with her family in 1922) and Haiti, where she shot a movie more than four hours long, she wrote an important anthropological book (Divine Horsemen. The Living Gods of Haiti) and became almost a mambo (a voodoo priestess). In the ‘30s she was politically engaged as a Trotskyist forefront militant in the leftist American university movement. The internal vicissitudes of the Socialist Party (the threat of a new world war was pressing) with the expulsion of the Trotskyite wing to which the future director was close, the departure from her political activities but not from her certain ideals. At the end of the decade her militancy turned towards art, moving from radical politics to the “radical” modern poets (Baudelaire, Eliot, Pound) with the aspiration to become a poet. In the early ‘40s, while working as a fact-totum for the choreographer and African-American dance pioneer Katherine Dunham, she could combine her passion for dance and for anthropology. From 1943 she devoted to the cause of independent and experimental film, as a filmmaker and theorist. From 1947 she dedicated herself, as a scholar and initiate/follower, to the promotion and dissemination of Haitian culture and voodoo.

In the last decade, three films by Italian women filmmakers stood out as a direct comparison with the recently elapsed secolo breve (short twentieth century): Bellissime by Giovanna Gagliardo, Vogliamo anche le rose by Alina Marazzi, and Ragazze, la vita trema by Paola Sangiovanni. These documentaries, with their personal styles and tendencies, locate “the history of women and a gender approach,” to use Elda Guerra’s words, as “points of reference which are to some extent essential to the navigation of the twentieth century.”
Bellissime, which Gagliardo made in two parts presented at the Venice Film Festival in 2004 and 2006 (Horizons session), sets off on this exciting voyage, exploring it with the testimonial and emotional strength of cinema. It resurrects queens and commoners sealed in their traditional roles, women writers who instilled the first stirrings of a slow and gradual change, and, in short, the protagonists of historical events small and large, with their turns now tragic, now victorious (the two wars, Edda Ciano’s troubles to save her husband, the struggles of partisan women, and post-war reconstruction). In the first part of the film come the girls in miniskirts whose urgent dreams flutter in the streets: “Beautiful are our mothers and grandmothers,” the author declared, “who paved the way for our privileges and achievements.” Gagliardo’s challenge of extracting the other half of Italian twentieth-century history through materials that present a dominantly male point of view is effectively fulfilled by the construction of a new narrative, which is neither antagonistic nor passive with respect to the official narratives, and which attests to the evolution of a great adventure for women. The affectionate genealogy of images articulated by the film pays homage to an authoritative and inescapable path, outlining a bridge of ideas towards the future, made of memory and recognition and bequeathed to the following generations: “Bellissime is female subjectivity seized where we didn’t see it,” Piera Detassis writes, “where it didn’t want to be, nor should it have been. Unexpected, unpredictable, especially inevitable.”

The kaleidoscopic multimedia parade (re)built by Bellissime opens with the dazzling ’60s, that “have forever changed the way we think and see,” the narrator comments—it is the decade of anti-war protests, student revolts, protest movements, and the flood in Florence that led to recovery efforts to which young people around the world contributed. By welcoming major rock concerts, from the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix, and with its successes in fashion and design, Italy goes international. The United States is conquered by Italian actresses (Sophia Loren opened the decade with an Oscar for La ciociara) and TV sets come to the conquest of Italian homes: “One hundred years after the unification of Italy,” the film voice over declares bluntly, “TV tries to make Italians for a second time.” In fact, early TV screens offer not only popular entertainment (quiz and game shows, variety evenings with Italian singers and international dancers), but also carry out a sophisticated political and cultural mission: on the one hand, the domestic promulgation of the national language; on the other, a commitment to the popularization of great liturature and theatre, both domestic and foreign, which puts to good use the talents of many young women (Anna Maria Guarnieri, Lea Massari, Catherine Spaak, and Paola Pitagora, to name a few). And the world of Italian show business includes gratified celebrity new mothers (for example, Mina, Stefania Sandrelli, and Carla Gravina), who bravely expose their “carnal maternal happiness,” which as the narrator in Bellissime explains, derives from extramarital relationships.

Nell’ultimo decennio tre film di cineaste italiane si sono distinti per un confronto diretto col «secolo breve» appena trascorso: Bellissime di Giovanna Gagliardo, Vogliamo anche le rose di Alina Marazzi e Ragazze, la vita trema di Paola Sangiovanni. Si tratta di lavori di carattere documentaristico che (rin)tracciano, con stili e predilezioni personali, «la storia delle donne ed un approccio di genere», per usare le parole di Elda Guerra, come «riferimenti in qualche misura imprescindibili per la circumnavigazione del Novecento».
Bellissime, realizzato da Gagliardo in due parti presentate al Festival di Venezia nel 2004 e 2006 (sezione “Orizzonti”), svolge in modo avvincente questa circumnavigazione, dispiegandola con la forza testimoniale ed emozionale del cinema. “Reincarna” regine e popolane sigillate nei loro ruoli tradizionali, scrittrici che instillano i primi fermenti di un lento e progressivo cambiamento, e, insomma, le protagoniste di piccoli e grandi eventi della storia, con le sue pieghe ora tragiche ora vittoriose (le due guerre, il travaglio di Edda Ciano per salvare il marito, la lotta delle partigiane e la ricostruzione post-bellica), fino alle ragazze in minigonna, nella prima parte del film, coi loro sogni urgenti sventolati in piazza: «Bellissime sono le nostre madri e le nostre nonne», ha dichiarato l’autrice, «che hanno preparato il terreno ai nostri privilegi e alle nostre conquiste». La sua sfida per estrarre l’altra metà della storia d’Italia del Novecento da materiali fortemente coniugati “al maschile” si attua tramite l’efficace (ri)montaggio di una narrazione né antagonista né passiva rispetto a quelle ufficiali, che attesta l’evoluzione di una grande avventura al femminile. L’affettuosa genealogia d’immagini articolata dal film omaggia un percorso autorevole e ineludibile, delineando un ideale ponte verso il futuro, fatto di memoria e riconoscimento e lasciato in eredità alle nuove generazioni: «Bellissime è la soggettività femminile colta là dove non la vedevamo», scrive Piera Detassis, «dove non voleva né doveva esserci. Imprevista, imprevedibile, soprattutto inevitabile».

La caleidoscopica sfilata multimediale (ri)costruita da Bellissime si apre con i fulgidi anni ‘60, che «hanno cambiato per sempre il nostro modo di pensare e di vedere», annota la voce narrante: decennio di mobilitazioni pacifiste, di rivolte studentesche, di movimenti di protesta e dell’alluvione di Firenze, soccorsa con generosità da giovani di tutto il mondo. Accogliendo grandi concerti rock, dai Beatles a Jimi Hendrix, e col successo della sua moda e del design, l’Italia in questi anni si internazionalizza. L’America è conquistata dalle nostre attrici (Sofia Loren inaugura il decennio con l’Oscar per La ciociara); le case italiane lo sono dalla televisione: «Cento anni dopo l’unità d’Italia», proclama schiettamente la voce over del film, «la TV riprova a fare gli italiani». Il piccolo schermo degli albori offre infatti non solo spettacoli d’intrattenimento popolare (telequiz, show, varietà serali con cantanti nostrane e ballerine internazionali), ma assolve anche a una sofisticata missione politica e culturale: da un lato, con la diffusione “domestica” della lingua nazionale; dall’altro, con l’impegno divulgativo del grande teatro e della grande letteratura, nazionali e stranieri, un impegno che valorizza tanti giovani talenti femminili (Anna Maria Guarnieri, Lea Massari, Catherine Spaak, Paola Pitagora, per citare qualche nome). E dal mondo dello spettacolo peninsulare provengono le appagate celebrities neomamme (da Mina a Stefania Sandrelli a Carla Gravina, per esempio), che hanno il coraggio di esporre la loro «carnale felicità materna», così scandisce la voce narrante di Bellissime, frutto di relazioni extraconiugali.

LINEE GUIDA PER LA SICUREZZA E L’IGIENE NELLE ATTIVITÀ SPERIMENTALI DELL’I.N.F.N.
Art. 1.
Campo di applicazione
Le presenti linee guida si applicano alle attività sperimentali rilevanti realizzate nelle strutture dell’I.N.F.N. In linea generale, la rilevanza dell’esperimento, è determinata dalla complessità, in termini funzionali, degli apparati coinvolti, dalla tipologia delle tecnologie impiegate, dall’utilizzo di materiali e sostanze classificati tossico-nocivi ovvero in tutti quei casi in cui, nella definizione del rischio, è essenziale l’apporto di competenze specialistiche di norma presenti solo nella collaborazione scientifica.
Sono considerate rilevanti anche le attività che, per situazioni particolari dell’ambiente, ovvero dell’esperimento, non consentendo l’integrale attuazione di tutte le normative in vigore, richiedono l’applicazione di procedimenti di deroga, qualora previsti dalla legislazione vigente, ad una (o più) norme di prevenzione incendi, igiene e sicurezza.
Art. 2.
Soggetti di riferimento
Ai fini delle presenti linee guida, si intende per:
a. Datore di lavoro della struttura ospitante:
• direttore della struttura I.N.F.N. dove l’esperimento da realizzare viene ospitato.
b. Servizio prevenzione e protezione della struttura ospitante:
• servizio afferente alla direzione della struttura I.N.F.N., composto da un responsabile di servizio, di cui agli artt. 8 e 9 del D.Lgs.vo 626/94 e da addetti al servizio eventualmente supportati da consulenti e servizi esterni.
c. Collaborazione scientifica:
• unità organizzativa di project management composta da ricercatori, tecnologi e tecnici I.N.F.N. e/o di altre istituzioni o Enti di ricerca nazionali ed internazionali, incaricata di progettare e realizzare esperimenti per la ricerca scientifica e tecnologica.
d. Responsabile dell’esperimento
• figura di vertice della collaborazione scientifica che stabilisce gli indirizzi generali del progetto di ricerca.
e. Coordinatore tecnico della collaborazione scientifica:
• figura di vertice interna all’INFN e/o di altre istituzioni o Enti di ricerca nazionali ed internazionali con funzioni di coordinamento della progettazione e realizzazione dell’esperimento di ricerca scientifica e tecnologica.
f. Unità di sicurezza interna:
• all’interno della collaborazione scientifica è costituita una unità di sicurezza, composta da una o più persone coordinate dal glimos (group leader in matter of safety), ivi compresi esperti e consulenti esterni, con i compiti di cui all’art. 7, relativi alla sicurezza dell’esperimento nelle fasi di progettazione, esecuzione, presa dati e dismissione.
Art. 3.
Compiti del Direttore della struttura I.N.F.N. ospitante
Il Direttore della struttura INFN ospitante individua le attività sperimentali che richiedono la nomina del glimos. Dà quindi mandato al coordinatore tecnico di designare il glimos dell’esperimento secondo le modalità previste dalle presenti linee guida, sentiti il responsabile del servizio di prevenzione e protezione ed il rappresentante per la sicurezza dei lavoratori.
Ai sensi del D.Lgs.vo 626/94, art. 4, tra gli obblighi del Direttore della struttura ospitante, in qualità di datore di lavoro, sono comprese:
• la valutazione dei rischi per la sicurezza e salute dei lavoratori;
• l’elaborazione di un documento contenente una relazione sulla valutazione dei rischi per la sicurezza e salute e la individuazione delle misure preventive e protettive conseguenti alla predetta valutazione;
• la designazione degli addetti al servizio di prevenzione e protezione e del relativo responsabile, ai sensi dell’art. 8;
• la nomina, nei casi previsti dall’art. 16, del medico competente;
• la designazione degli addetti incaricati dell’attuazione delle misure di prevenzione incendio, di pronto soccorso e, comunque, della gestione dell’emergenza;
• l’ effettuazione della riunione periodica di prevenzione e protezione dai rischi di cui all’art. 11 del D.Lgs.vo 626/94.
Art. 4.
Compiti del Responsabile dell’esperimento
Nella progettazione e realizzazione dell’esperimento, il Responsabile dell’esperimento si attiene ai principi enunciati all’art. 3 del D.Lgs.vo 626/94.

GUIDELINES FOR HEALTH AND SAFETY
IN EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVITIES AT I.N.F.N. FACILITIES
Article 1
Scope
The present guidelines apply to relevant experimental activities conducted at I.N.F.N. facilities. In general, the relevance of an experiment is determined by the complexity (in functional terms) of the apparatus involved, by the technologies in use, and by the use of materials and substances classified as toxic and/or hazardous, and extends to all cases in which the contribution of expertise normally present only in the context of a Scientific Collaboration is essential for risk evaluation.
Activities are also considered relevant for which, because of particular aspects of the experimental environment or apparatus that do not admit of full compliance with all safety regulations in effect, exemption is formally requested from one or more regulations regarding fire prevention or workplace health and safety, to the extent that such a request is admissible under current regulations.
Article 2
Relevant Parties
For the purposes of these guidelines, the following terms are defined:
a. Employer at the Host Facility:
• The Director of an I.N.F.N. facility hosting an experiment to be constructed.
b. Safety Service at the Host Facility:
• A service under the Directorate of the I.N.F.N. facility, comprised of a Director, as specified in Articles 8 and 9 of the Decreto Legislativo 626/94 (hereafter, DL 626/94), and of personnel, and supported if necessary by external consultants and service providers.
c. Scientific Collaboration:
• Organizational unit for project management comprised of research scientists, technologists, and technicians from the I.N.F.N. and/or from other domestic or foreign institutions and research organizations, collectively responsible for the design, construction, and conduct of experiments for scientific and technological research.
d. Experiment Spokesperson
• Principal member of the leadership of Scientific Collaboration, responsible for establishing the general direction of the research project.
e. Technical Coordinator of the Scientific Collaboration:
• Member of the leadership of a Scientific Collaboration from the I.N.F.N or from another domestic or foreign institution or research organization, responsible for coordinating the design, construction, and conduct of an experiment for scientific or technological research.
f. Internal Safety Committee:
• Internal committee of a Scientific Collaboration, comprised of one or more persons, including external experts and consultants, whose safety-related activities are coordinated by the GLIMOS (Group Leader in Matters of Safety), with the responsibilities related to the safety of the experiment during the phases of design, construction, data taking, and decommissioning described in Article 7 of the present guidelines.
Article 3
Responsibilities of the Director of the Host I.N.F.N. Facility
The Director of the Host I.N.F.N. Facility identifies experimental activities that require the nomination of a GLIMOS. In each case, after consultation with the Director of the Safety Service and the Representative for Worker Safety, the Director gives a mandate to the Technical Coordinator to designate a GLIMOS for the experiment in accordance with the procedures described in the present guidelines.
As specified in DL 626/94, Article 4, among the duties of the Director of the Host Facility are included:
• the evaluation of risks to the health and safety of workers;
• the production of a document which contains a report on the evaluation of heath and safety risks, and which identifies the preventive health and safety measures to be adopted as a result of the conclusions of said evaluation;
• the designation of the Director and personnel of the Safety Service, as specified in DL 626/94, Article 8;
• the nomination of a Responsible Physician for the situations specified in DL 626/94, Article 16;
• the designation of personnel in charge of initiating fire prevention, first aid, and in general, emergency management procedures;
• the organization of periodic meetings on accident prevention and risk protection, in observance of DL 626/94, Article 11.
Article 4
Responsibilities of the Experiment Spokesperson
Throughout the design, construction, and conduct of the experiment, the Experiment Spokesperson observes the principles outlined in DL 626/94, Article 3.
