Source text - German Die Ausgangslage:
Vor Ihnen liegt die Stadtspieler-Spielfläche mit vier Stadtteilen: der Altstadt, der Neustadt, dem Gewerbegebiet und der Gartenstadt. Alle Stadtteile sind bisher ohne Bauten und ohne Hinweise auf die Geschichte und Möglichkeiten der Stadt.
Ziele des Spiels sind:
eine lebens- und liebenswerte Stadt zu bauen, einander kennen zulernen und neue Sichtweisen zu erproben und mit den meisten Punkten als Meisterspieler zu gewinnen.
Vorbereitung des Spiels:
Benennen Sie aus der Runde einen Vorspieler. Dieser spielt mit, liest aber zusätzich die Spielanleitung vor und achtet auf den Zeitplan. Dafür benötigt er/sie folgende Materialien auf der „Vorspielerkarte“:
4 Szenariokarten (jetzt aus dem Stapel der 16 großen farbigen Karten jeweils eine zu Altstadt, Gartenstadt, Neustadt, Gewerbegebiet aus wählen oder ziehen)
24 Themenkarten (große grauen Karten) 15 Meisterspieler-Besuchspunkte (graue kleine Karten)
Jeder Spieler wählt eine Farbe und nimmt die dazugehörige Spielerkarte. Auf die linke Seite der Spielerkarte legen Sie nun folgende Materialien in der von Ihnen gewählten Farbe:
4 Knetstücke 3 Halmamännchen 2 Themenkarten (große graue Karten, jetzt aus dem Stapel von der
Vorspielerkarte ziehen) 1 Kupfer-Stadtplanerpreis 5 Meisterspieler-Wahlpunkte
Auf der rechten Seite der Karte sehen Sie die acht Spielschritte in Kurzform bezeichnet.
Spielablauf:
1. Schritt: Der Vorspieler liest die vier Szenariokarten nacheinander laut vor. Diese vier Szenarien sind die Ausgangssituation der vier Stadtteile.
2. Schritt: Jeder Spieler formt aus einem Knetstück ein Bauwerk: Sei es ein Gebäude, eine Brücke oder ein Baum – der Fantasie sind keine Grenzen gesetzt! Mit diesem Bau können Sie auf die Szenariokarten reagieren, oder Sie platzieren ihn davon frei und unabhängig auf dem Spielfeld. Geben Sie ihrem Bauwerk einen Namen und erzählen Sie etwas darüber, warum es genau dorthin gehört.
3. Schritt: Jetzt entsteht und wächst die Stadt, ihre Aufgaben und Potentiale werden sichtbar. Denn: Jeder Spieler führt pro Spielrunde drei Aktionen direkt hintereinander aus – mit jeweils verschiedenen Materialien. Er wird zunächst Investor/ Bauherr mit dem Knetbienenwachs, danach Stadtplaner mit der Themenkarte und besucht abschließend mit dem Besuchermännchen einen anderen Ort.
a) Bauen als Investor und Bauherr: Formen Sie aus einem Knetstück ein Bauwerk, setzen Sie es auf das Spielfeld und erläutern Sie, was es darstellt und warum es sich an dieser Stelle gut ins Stadtbild einfügt.
b) Beschreiben als Stadtentwickler: Nehmen Sie eine der Themenkarten und beschreiben Sie den Stand der Entwicklung zum genannten Thema in der Stadt.
c) Besuchen als Besucher: Nehmen Sie ein Besuchermännchen und besuchen Sie damit ein Gebäude der Mitspieler. ABER: Bevor Sie sich entscheiden, wen Sie besuchen möchten, muss jeder Mitspieler mit einer kurzen, spannenden Geschichte Sie und Ihr Besuchermännchen umwerben. Welches Bauwerk finden Sie nun am attraktivsten? Wenn Sie sich entschieden haben, erhält der Erbauer des Bauwerks, neben dem Ihr Besuchermännchen nun steht, vom Vorspieler einen Meisterspieler-Punkt (kleine graue Meisterspielerpunkte von der Vorspieler-Karte).
Wenn der erste Spieler diese drei Aktionen ausgeführt hat, kommt der Nächste mit den gleichen drei Aktionen in seiner Farbe an die Reihe usw. Nach zwei Spielrunden (oder wenn die Zeit zu weit fortgeschritten ist) setzen Sie alle restliche Materialien – Besucher und Bauten – einfach auf das Spielbrett.
4. Schritt: Geben Sie der gemeinsam entwickelten Stadt einen Namen.
5. Schritt: Nun nimmt jeder Spieler den Kupfer-Stadtplanerpreis von seiner Spielerkarte und kürt damit das Gebäude bzw. das Ensemble, das seiner Meinung nach den wichtigsten Ausgangspunkt für die Zukunft der Stadt aufzeigt. Sie dürfen auch eigene Bauten auswählen. Begründen Sie dann Ihre Wahl!
6. Schritt: Erfinden Sie gemeinsam eine kurze Geschichte, welche die prämierten Gebäude miteinander verbindet. Ein Spieler beginnt, nach ein bis zwei Sätzen setzt der nächste fort, bis alle Gebäude mit Kupfersäule einbezogen sind.
7. Schritt: Wählen Sie den Meisterspieler! Jeder Spieler nimmt seine fünf Meisterspieler-Punkte und bewertet damit die Bauleistung seiner Mitspieler. Im Anschluss zählt jeder seine Punkte, auch die grauen Meisterspieler-Punkte aus Spielschritt 3. Der Spieler mit den meisten Punkten wird zum Meisterspieler gekürt – Glückwunsch!
8. Schritt: Reflektieren Sie, was Ihnen während des Spiels aufgefallen ist, wie Sie die Entwicklung der Stadt wahrgenommen haben. Wer möchte, kann einem anderen Mitspieler eine „Stadtspieler-Postkarte“ schreiben, die im Spielkarton liegt, um so Ideen, Erkenntnisse und Begegnungen mitzugeben in die nächsten Tage.
Translation - English Starting position:
In front of you is the game board for Urbanplayer. It is the plan of a town with four districts; the Old Town, the New Town, the Commercial District, and the Garden Quarter. Till now, none of the districts have been built on, and there are no references to the history or ways of the town.
Aims of the game:
are to plan and build a liveable and lovable town, get to know your fellow Urbanplayers, test new perspectives, and to win the game by becoming the Master Player having collected the most points.
Preparing the game:
From the group of players select one who will be the “Game-leader”. He/she will play along with the others, but in addition will read the game's guidelines aloud and will make sure the time schedule is observed. For this he/she will require the following materials on the “Game-leader card”:
4 scenario cards (drawn/chosen now from the pile of 16 large coloured cards - one of each of the Old Town, Garden Quarter, New Town, Business Quarter)
24 Theme cards (big grey ones) 15 Master-player visiting points (small grey ones)
Each player chooses a colour and selects the appropriate player card. On the left side of the player card now place the following materials of the appropriate colour:
4 pieces of modeling beeswax, 3 matchstick men, 2 theme cards (the large grey ones, drawn from the pile of the Game-leader), 1 copper town-planner prize, 5 Master-player voting points
On the right hand side of the cards you will see a short description of the eight steps in the game
How to play the game:
1st Step: The Game-leader reads the four scenario cards out loud, one after the other.These four scenarios are the starting point for the four town districts.
2nd Step: Each player now forms an object out of a piece of beeswax: it can be a building, a bridge, or a tree – there are no fantasy restrictions here! With this construction you can react to scenario cards, or you can place it anywhere you like totally independently on the playing area. Give your construction a name and relate something about it and why it belongs where you have placed it.
3rd. Step: Now the town is coming into existence and is growing, your activities and potential are becoming visible. Because: every Urbanplayer in every round of the game has three actions to perform, each with differing materials. First he is an investor/builder using the beeswax, then he is a town-planner utilising the theme cards, and then he is a visitor in another district.
a) As Investor and builder: Using the beeswax create a construction and set it on the playing area, giving an explanation as to what it represents and why it is best suited, at this particular place, to fit into the overall concept of the town.
b) Describe as a Town-planner: Take one of the Theme cards and describe the state of the development applicable to this theme in the town.
c) Visiting as visitor: Take one of your match-stickmen and visit a building of one of the other players. BUT before you do this all the players have to relate a short, enticing story about their buildings. Which one do you find the most attractive? After you have decided, the lucky builder of the construction, alongside which your match-stickman is standing, will receive a Master-player point from the Game-leader (small, grey Master-player point from the Game-leader cards).
After the first player has completed all three activities, it's the next Urbanplayer's turn to do the same with his colour. After two rounds (or if there is not enough time left) all the remaining materials – visitors and constructions – are to be set on the game-board.
4th. Step: Give the jointly developed town a name.
5h. Step: Now each player takes his copper Town-planner Award from his playing cards and “honours” that building or ensemble which he thinks shows the best starting point for the future of the town. You can choose your own construction. You must justify your choice.
6th. Step: Jointly invent a story which binds the “honoured” buildings to one another. One player starts and after one or two sentences the next takes over until all the buildings with a copper column are integrated.
7th. Step: Choose the Master-player! Every player takes his five Master-player points and evaluates the construction capacity of his co-players. Afterwards every player counts his points, together with the grey Master-player points from the 3rd step. The player with the most points is declared Master-player! Congratulations!
8th. Step: Reflect upon that which occurred to you during the game, how you perceived the development of the town. Whoever wants to can send an Urbanplayer postcard, which are to be found in the game box, to one of the other players to share ideas, experiences and contacts, in the following few days.
