Source text - Spanish Ciudad de México • Al prever que el Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federación (TEPJF) resolverá a favor del candidato presidencial priista, Enrique Peña Nieto, el movimiento estudiantil #YoSoy132 determinó realizar una marcha "fúnebre" un día después de dicho fallo.
Luego de una asamblea metropolitana de casi 12 horas en la Facultad de Filosofía y Letras de la UNAM, el movimiento definió movilizarse a las 16:00 horas de Ciudad Universitaria a las instalaciones del TEPJF, con una ruta aún por definirse y "con posibilidad de que mucha gente se vaya uniendo en lugares estratégicos".
Misael Rojas, integrante de la comisión de Prensa del movimiento, explicó que se denominó así a la protesta pues consideran que la democracia en México "está apunto de fallecer".
"Se quiere hacer expresivo que la democracia para nosotros ha fallado demasiado y por lo tanto la declaramos una democracia fallida, que está en agonía y que está apunto de fallecer, ese ataúd y esa marcha fúnebre es para recordar que todos los mexicanos tenemos el derecho de luchar por ella y no dejarla morir", enfatizó.
Respecto al fallo de la autoridad electoral, el estudiante de la UAM Iztapalapa resaltó que "esperan lo peor", a pesar de haber entregado pruebas de "irregularidades" que se presentaron en la elección presidencial de julio pasado.
"El movimiento entregó muchos anomalías, se están descartando pruebas, y se está dejando de lado al ciudadano, se están relegando las denuncias ciudadanas y esperamos lo peor, no que el tribunal se porte a la altura", sostuvo.
Por ello, exhortó a que la ciudadanía participe en la movilización, además de aclarar que no solo participará #YoSoy132, "sino todas las organizaciones que se quieran adherir".
"Estamos invitando a la población en general. La democracia es un asunto de todos los mexicanos y queremos que todos los ciudadanos mantengan ese espíritu, salgan a la calle, participen, reclamen que es un derecho legítimo", indicó.
Rojas informó que el próximo lunes se llevará a cabo otra asamblea metropolitana en la Facultad de Economía de la UNAM, para detallar la ruta y otros puntos de la manifestación, así como otros temas en agenda del movimiento como el contrainforme presidencial que se presentará el 1 de septiembre.

Misael Rojas, leader of the movement’s Press committee, explained that the protest was so named because they believe that democracy in Mexico “is about to die.”
“We want to make it clear that democracy has failed us too often and thus we are declaring it a failed democracy, one which is suffering and is about to die—this coffin and this funeral march will remind us that every Mexican has the right to fight for it and not let it die,” he emphasized.
Regarding the failure of the electoral authority, the UAM [Autonomous Metropolitan University]-Iztapalapa student noted that they “expect the worst,” despite having provided evidence of “irregularities” that emerged during last July’s presidential election.
“The movement presented numerous anomalies; they are disregarding the evidence and brushing the citizen aside, they are ignoring citizen complaints and we expect the worst, that the court will not rise to the occasion,” he said.
On that note, he appealed to the public to participate in the mobilization, and clarified that not only will #YoSoy132 take part, “but so will all the organizations that want to join in.”
“We are inviting the general public. Democracy is a matter of concern for all Mexicans and we want every citizen to maintain that spirit, to take to the streets, to participate, to reclaim what is a lawful right,” he stated.
Rojas reported that next Monday another metropolitan assembly will take place in the Economic Department at UNAM to confirm the route and other details of the demonstration, as well as other issues on the movement’s agenda, like the presidential counter-report that will be presented on September 1.

Source text - Spanish El papa Benedicto XVI ha dicho hoy en La Habana que "Cuba y el mundo necesitan cambios", pero que estos solo se darán "si cada uno está en condiciones de preguntarse por la verdad y se decide a tomar el camino del amor, sembrando reconciliación y fraternidad". El pontífice así lo ha afirmado ante más de medio millón de personas en la homilía de la misa que celebra en la plaza de la Revolución de La Habana, lugar de los grandes acontecimientos relacionados con la revolución comunista cubana, último acto de su visita de tres días a la isla caribeña.
Ratzinger ha dicho también que para que la Iglesia ejerza su labor plenamente ha de contar "con la esencial libertad religiosa, que consiste en poder proclamar y celebrar la fe también públicamente, llevando el mensaje de amor, reconciliación y paz que Jesús trajo al mundo".
Benedicto XVI ha exigido el derecho a la libertad religiosa y ha afirmado que cuando la Iglesia pide que se respete "no está reclamando privilegio alguno, pretende ser sólo fiel al mandato de Cristo, sabedora de que donde Cristo se hace presente el hombre crece en humanidad y encuentra su consistencia".
"Es de reconocer con alegría que en Cuba se han ido dando pasos para que la Iglesia lleve a cabo su misión insoslayable de expresar pública y abiertamente su fe. Sin embargo, es preciso seguir adelante, y deseo animar a las instancias gubernamentales de la Nación a reforzar lo ya alcanzado y a avanzar por este camino de genuino servicio al bien común de toda la sociedad cubana", ha agregado el Papa.
El pontífice ha añadido que el derecho a la libertad religiosa, tanto en su dimensión individual como comunitaria, manifiesta la unidad del ser humano, que es ciudadano y creyente a la vez.. El Papa ha agregado que es también legitimo que los creyentes contribuyan a la edificación de la sociedad.
Reunión con Fidel Castro
Fidel Castro se encontrará hoy en La Habana con el Papa Benedicto XVI. Lo confirmó anoche en Cuba (de madrugada en la Península) a través de un artículo de opinión en la web oficial Cubadebate. "Gustosamente saludaré mañana miércoles a Su Excelencia el Papa Benedicto XVI", escribió Castro, "como lo hice con Juan Pablo II, un hombre a quien el contacto con los niños y los ciudadanos humildes del pueblo suscitaba, invariablemente, sentimientos de afecto".
El exlíder del régimen cubano, de 85 años, ahora en segundo plano por problemas de salud, anunción de esta manera su cita con el Papa al final de un texto que comienza con referencias a los problemas actuales del mundo y luego liga con una reflexión sobre las coincidencias entre "los marxistas y los cristianos sinceros".
El Papa Benedicto cerrará hoy su gira -que lo llevó primero a México y después a Cuba- con el esperado encuentro con Fidel Castro y con una misa en la Plaza de la Revolución, en cuyo palacio fue recibido ayer por la cúpula castrista, con el presidente Raúl Castro (de 81 años y hermano menor de Fidel) a la cabeza.
El encuentro en el Palacio de la Revolución entre el pontífice y Raúl Castro duró unos 40 minutos. Ambos estuvieron acompañados por un intérprete. Al final, el Papa saludó a la familia del presidente.
De acuerdo con el programa oficial de la visita, el encuentro entre Raúl Castro y Benedicto XVI respondía, desde un punto de vista diplomático, al hecho de que el Papa detenta el título de jefe del Estado Vaticano, por lo que su presencia en Cuba, además de tener una función apostólica, también se considera como una "visita de cortesía" del cargo más alto de un país extranjero.

Tras las conversaciones, hubo un intercambio de regalos. En concreto, el pontífice obsequió a Raúl Castro con un facsímil de la Geographia de Claudi Tolomeo. Se trata de la copia de un pergamino de los años 1460-1470 que reproduce el manuscrito Urbinate latino que se encuentra en la Biblioteca Apostólica Vaticana, y que contiene la versión latina de la Geographia de Tolomeo, del siglo II después de Cristo.

“We must recognize joyfully that steps have been taken in Cuba so that the Church can carry out her essential mission of expressing her faith publicly and openly. However, this must continue onwards, and I want to encourage the nation’s governing authorities to strengthen what has already been achieved and to move forward on this path of genuine service toward the common good of all Cuban society,” the pope added.
The pontiff added that the right to religious freedom, as much in the private as in the public sphere, reveals the unity of the individual, who is both citizen and believer. The pope added that it is also true that believers contribute to the improvement of society.
Meeting with Fidel Castro
Fidel Castro will meet with Pope Benedict XVI today in Havana.
