Spanish to English: Art museum guide General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Architecture
Translation - English The eaves, made up of wooden corbels and wrought iron braces, run across the entire façade. They provide great uniformity with all the existing wrought iron grilled windows, in the Murcian style of the time, mostly installed around 1950.
Alongside it is the porch of the museum as conceived by José Tamés in 1950, following in the style of the church, framed with simple columns and an upper balcony. Yago Bonet included a belfry with straight profiles, on a floor with five rectangular windows, which gives a modern feel and contrasts with the curved silhouette of the cupola of the church.
On the north side is the porch of the Riquelme Palace, which was installed at the museum in the 1970’s. Nowadays it is the main entrance, and as such, Bonet placed great importance on recapturing a historical image, providing a monumental face of great dignity to the main doorway. The majestic semicircular arch of strong ashlars, remains crowned by figures of savages holding a shield and laurel, and an elegant tripartite window with small Ionic pilasters. The modern construction pays special attention to the showcasing and viewing of the royal coat of arms between two resident lions in the corner.
