Source text - English Im Zeugenstand des Saales sitzt Commander Taylor. Auf der Stirnseite sitzt der Richter Admiral Mulhan, auf der Anklagebank Duncan Fraser. Weiter sind anwesend der Ankläger (im Range eines Captains), der Verteidiger (im Range eines Commanders), 2 Beisitzer (im Rang von Commandern) sowie ein Protokollant.

Gregory erhebt sich.

Was können Sie uns zur Person des Angeklagten sagen ?
GREGORY
Ich kenne Lieutenant Duncan Fraser seit fast zwanzig Jahren.
Er ist ein vorbildlicher Offizier. Ehre und Loyalität sind für ihn keine leeren Worthülsen, sondern Maximen, nach denen er lebt.
ANKLÄGER
(unterbricht) Und wieso hat Lieutenant Fraser dann beim Manöver ohne Erlaubnis seinen Posten verlassen, obwohl ihm das als wachhabendem Offizier strengstens untersagt ist!?
Translation - German Commander Taylor is standing in the witness box in the room where the court martial is being held. Admiral Mulhan, functioning as a judge here, is sitting at the head of the room. Duncan Fraser is in the stand. Also present are the prosecutor (who has the rank of captain), the defence lawyer (who has the rank of Commander) and two other judges (both with the rank of Commander), as well as a court recorder.

What can you tell us about the character of the accused?
GREGORY
I have known Lieutenant Duncan Fraser for almost 20 years. He is outstanding naval officer. For him, honour and loyalty are not empty expressions but principles according to which he lives his life.
PROSECUTOR
(interrupts)
Then why did he leave his post without permission during the manoeuvre, although as the officer in charge this is strictly forbidden?!
