Source text - Italian L’ultimo giorno... Come vola il
tempo! Non te ne accorgi, ti
svegli ed è già sera. (pausa)
Quando arrivai qui, pieno di
euforia, credevo che non ce
l’avrei mai fatta a fare tutto; a vedere tutti quei luoghi che mi ero prefissato di visitare; a
scoprire di persona tutte le
sensazioni che sapevo possibili,
ma di cui avevo soltanto sentito
parlare o letto sui miei libri.
Sono un viaggiatore e ho visto
tanti posti nella mia vita, ma
questo... questo mi ha cambiato.
Gente che va, gente che viene,
ognuno con una sua vita; delle
idee, dei sogni e delle speranze
per il futuro. Sono tutti come
bambini. Così spensierati e
ingenui; e non si rendono conto
del male che stanno arrecando
alla Terra. Ancora no. Presto
Potrei avvertirli, potrei fare
qualcosa, ma non sarebbe giusto,
non sarebbe lecito. Sono solo un
muto osservatore. Lo siamo tutti, noi viaggiatori. Non ci è
permesso cambiare il corso degli
eventi. Sarebbe rischioso.
Significherebbe riscrivere la
storia. Tornare a casa e trovare
qualcosa di diverso, magari di
peggiore, e non possiamo
permetterci che accada. Per
questo, noi viaggiatori siamo
tenuti a rispettare delle regole, delle leggi fondamentali.
Eccoli, sono arrivati.
Puntualissimi, naturalmente.
Meraviglioso. Vederli così felici mi riempie di gioia. Una gioia che non provavo più da molto tempo. Ho visto mari, oceani, foreste, deserti, ma niente è migliore di questo. Il loro amore darà vita al futuro.
Vorrei tanto avvicinarmi e dire
loro la verità, ma non posso. Io
sono un viaggiatore invisibile.
Non mi è permesso interferire con lo scorrere del tempo e il
susseguirsi degli eventi.
Rischierei di rovinare tutto. Di
cambiare il futuro. Di morire in
un altro universo, estraneo al
mio. Rischierei di non fare più
ritorno a casa.
Ci siamo. Lui le sta chiedendo di sposarla.
Qui, oggi, si sta scrivendo la
storia. La mia storia.
Mi chiedo, cosa penserebbero se
sapessero che dalla loro unione
nasceranno così tante persone. E
Potrei metterli in guardia,
informarli sugli eventi futuri,
ma non ce n’è bisogno. Tutto
andrà come deve andare e nessuno
potrà impedirlo. Non in questo
universo. Il loro. Il mio.
Ho visto abbastanza. È tempo di
andare. È tempo di ritornare a
casa.
Mi scusi!
Scusa, puoi farci una foto?
Ciao, puoi farci una foto?
Qui si scrive la storia. La
storia dei nostri padri. Dei
sopravvissuti... e la storia dei
loro figli...
...La mia storia.
Translation - English The last day… The time passes very quickly! You don’t realize, you wake up and it’s already evening. (pause). When I arrived here, so excited, I thought I couldn’t have done everything: to see all those places I wanted to visit; to discover, by myself, every feeling I knew it was possible, but I only heard aboutby people or read on my books.
I’m a traveller and I have seen a lot of places in my life, but this one… this one has changed me.
People is coming and going, everyone with their own life, ideas, dreams and hopes for the future. They are like kids. So carefree and candid; they do not know how much danger they are causing to the Earth. Not yet. Soon they have to open their eyes, when it will be too late. Just then they will realize to be surrounded by the asphalt, the cement, to breathe a toxic air, polluted by noxious substances for the environment and human beings. Substances that year after year, century after century, will modify human DNA… to mould a new species, creature of this world and men’s errors of this age. A weak, sick, sterile species forced to live underground in a planet unhealthy too, now next to collapse.
I could inform them, I could do something, but it would not be right, it would not be licit. I am just a silent observer, like all the travellers. We are not allowed to change the course of the events. It would be dangerous.
It would mean rewrite the history. To go back home and to find something different, even worse, and we cannot allow this happens. For this reason, we travellers have to respect some rules and important laws
Here they are, they have just arrived.
On time of course.
Wonderful. To see them so happy makes me joyful. a joy that I had not experienced for a while.
I’ve seen seas, oceans, forests, deserts, but nothing is better than this. Their love will create the future.
I would like to come closer and tell them the truth, but I cannot.
I am an invisible traveller. I am not allowed interfering with flowing of time and events.
I would risk to spoil everything, to change the future, to die in another universe, not involved in mine. I would risk not to go back home.
Here we are. He is asking to marry her.
Here, today, the history is going to be written. My story.
I wonder, what would they think if they knew that they will give birth to so many people and what would they do if they saw one of these to appear unexpectedly in front of them? If He told them to be a far descendant coming from the future…
They would consider him insane.
They would flee scared. They would pity or mock him… And it would be the most obvious reaction.
They live in their world ignoring the future, but this is their blessing:
Ignorance.
I could warn and inform them about future events, but they don’t need. Everything will go as it has to go and nobody can avoid it. Not in this universe. Their one. My own universe.
I have seen enough. It is time to go. It is time to go back home.
Excuse me!
Excuse me, could you take us a photo?
Hey, could you take us a photo?
Here we are writing the history.
The history of our ancestors, of survivors… and the history of their sons.
