The Pearl
Imperial Suites’ first American hotel revels in sheer, unabashed luxury. Acquired by the Hong Kong-based hotel company in 1988, the Beaux Arts-style former Grosvenor Hotel now offers Asia’s utmost standard of service in Midtown Manhattan. The opulence of Paris in an earlier age infuses the private quarters as well. Among 250 rooms and suites, the largest measures over 2,850 square feet. All are spacious and filled with custom-designed furnishings-such as Art Nouveau cabinets to hide remote-control TV’s, king-sized hardwood head-boards with curvaceous Belle Epoque designs, billowing balloon shades covering the windows, and cherubs and flowers garlanding the lamps.
Marble baths soothe guests with spacious showers, six-foot tubs, bidets, robes, slippers, and Lanvin toiletries displayed on golden china trays. Messages arrive at a guest’s front door on a white silver platter carried by a page in white gloves and pillbox hat.
