English to Spanish: IMIA event news release General field: Other
Source text - English This IMIA-led three-day event has expanded to become a four-day event, due to the number of activities that take place. Texas has a burgeoning medical interpreter community, so it seemed appropriate to take the conference to this state, which is also significant in its efforts to identify requirements for medical interpreters. Oscar Uribe, President of the Texas Association of Healthcare Interpreters (TAHIT), stated, “as the leaders of our profession in the Lone Star State, we would like to extend a friendly welcome to you. Everyone in our industry in this state stands to benefit from this event. Texas is one of the top three states given our large number of healthcare interpreters, so I am glad IMIA has recognized our state and our organization as important players. Our organization, with its strong sense of neutrality, recognizes the value of professional development and the importance of sharing time together to strengthen the bonds between our members. We look forward to sharing our warm Texan hospitality with the many conference attendees.” The Texas Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (TSID) is also collaborating for a successful event for both signed and spoken language interpreters. There is a need for medical interpreters in many languages, and the demand continues to outstrip supply. “This year’s theme of Education will allow us to explore the importance of quality education when bringing newcomers into our field,” stated Claudia Falla, Chair of the IMIA Education Committee. There will be important panel discussions addressing educational standards, technology, certification, and language access, as well as over 40 workshops for interpreters to select from

English to Spanish: Hospital Management Guide General field: Medical Detailed field: Management
Source text - English Peripheral health facilities (i.e. health post and health centres) are the first point of consultation for patients. Some health centres may have the capacity to perform basic laboratory tests and may have some capacity of hospitalization. Thus, some patients could be hospitalized at this level, and others will be referred to the hospital. The hospital is involved in providing care for these referrals, monitoring the quality of referrals received and ensuring a contra-referral system, when required, or a referral for another hospital.
Ideally, at peripheral level, all referrals should be evaluated by a clinician to balance the need of referral or not. However, patients can often by-pass the referral system arriving directly to the hospital, or some clinicians will refer patients who should be treated at peripheral facilities.
For multifactor reasons, a proper referral system is hard to implement in most part of context where we work. The reasons will vary from one country to other (terrain, distances, free services or not, security, cultural issues, clinician skills, morbid mortality of the area, absence of skilled human resources…etc), but the referral system plays a key role for ensuring the connection between the hospital and the peripheral areas, which are commonly the first point of consultation for the patients.
V.1.B. - MANAGEMENT OF EXISTING JOB PROFILES
A job profile (JP) is a document, which defines the hierarchical and functional lines of a position, its main responsibilities and tasks and the skills and qualifications requested to cover it. It’s essential to do a proper recruitment.
MSF- OCBA standard JP’s may need to get adapted to each context, normally by adjusting tasks and/or requirements (qualifications, etc.). A JP is not thought to explain context, activities, environment…etc. Unless necessary, be SMART and use Standard JP with basic information. This way the task of updating JPs (e.g. when opening a position, etc.) will be much easier.
