Source text - English There are plenty of glamorous skiing destinations around the world but Gstaad is leading the pack in combining style, sophistication and discretion. In fact you don’t need to ski to have a memorable break at this Swiss resort, with everything from shopping and pampering to hiking and hot air ballooning at your fingertips, writes Sarah Deeks
The valleys are only a short drive from the centre of town, and the region’s unique microclimate offers perfect conditions for alpine ballooning – so much so that nearby Ch_teau-d’Oex hosts an international balloon festival every year. Feel the stress of city life float away as you rise gently from the ground, up into the calm, tranquil sky as the mountains and valleys spread out far beneath you. Ballooning is a truly remarkable experience, and the perfect way to take in the arresting beauty of the alpine landscape.

Translation - English The qipao, also known as the cheongsam or mandarin gown, is a well-known ethnic costume credited as a Chinese apparel symbol harmoniously incorporating internal and external beauty. Featured with a flowing rhythm, unrestrained picturesque sentiment and overwhelming poetic charm, the costume mirrors stereotyped temperaments and characteristics of many traditional Chinese women, e.g., virtuousness, elegance, tenderness and quiet exquisiteness. It is a passionate follower of fashion trends, a messenger of civilization and a symbol of self-restraint and merits, transforming into a colourful rainbow between heaven and earth.
History of Qipao
From 1920s to late 1940s
The traditional dress prevailed across the country for more than two decades. Constant changes were made to assist its total transformation from the original wide and loose look, for example, changes in the collar height, sleeve length and slit position. Its slender and formfitting style is a real compliment to women's contours and curves. The dress, deemed fashionable at that time, contributed to the emancipation of women. Black or blue cheongsam dresses became popular among female students in China, the archetypal attire for Chinese women in the new era in the late 1920s. Fashion icons like modern women, celebrity socialites and film stars in foreign concessions in Shanghai relied on innovative qipao styles to attract attention, and thus contributed to the transformation of the traditional dress as well. In the 1930s, the qipao almost became the standard attire for Chinese women, including ordinary women, students, workers and wives of dignitaries, and even became the formal attire in social gatherings and diplomatic occasions. Later, the feminine Chinese dress was introduced to foreign countries and embraced by a number of western fans. 'East-west fusion' and rich variety were two major characteristics of the dress during this time period.
