Source text - English Biomimetic techniques used for CaP coating deposition are carried out in simulated body fluids (SBF) in near-physiological conditions, where CaP phases are precipitated out of solution and 'grown' on the desired substrate. (…) The technique is relatively simple to set up and perform, and is a cost-effective way of creating homogeneous coatings on several samples simultaneously. This technique does not require line of sight and thus allows for complex shapes to be coated. It is theorized that production of coatings in physiological conditions will produce CaP crystalline structures which display greater similarity to bone minerals when compared to CaP coatings deposited using alternative protocols which employ non-physiological pH, temperature or composition. Recent studies have illustrated that variation of the pH and temperature of the coating solution can favour the production of particular CaP phases over others. Furthermore, the geometry of the substrate to be coated has been demonstrated to affect the CaP phase that is ultimately deposited on the substrate surface. (…) Pre-treatments are commonly included in this technique to modify the surface reactivity of the substrate to be coated, the behaviour of the Mg and/or the properties of the coating. Most studies utilize either alkaline solutions, generally NaOH to varying concentrations, or acidic solutions, generally HCl or HF to varying concentrations, to achieve this. Alternatively, studies have focused on temperature pre-treatments in biomimetic protocols, or acidic or alkaline post-treatments.
Biomimetic techniques have proven to be popular methods for coating Mg and its alloys. Studies concerned with biomimetic coatings on non-biodegradable materials such as titanium substrates did not consider the effect of immersion time in SBF on substrate corrosion. Previous investigations have indicated that prolonged immersion in SBF will result in a thicker coating formation only if the supply of calcium and phosphate ions is plentiful, i.e. the concentration of the SBF is high enough. In these circumstances, investigators have demonstrated a second immersion in fresh SBF solution to be effective. Authors agree, however, that it would be advantageous to adapt the biomimetic protocol for biodegradable substrates such as Mg by reducing incubation times in SBF, thereby minimizing possible degradation during the coating process. Furthermore, biomimetically applied CaP coatings on titanium have been described as dense, complete, uniform and non-porous, as indicated by horizontal binding of CaP crystals across the coating. In contrast, (…) the formation of non-uniform and porous CaP coatings consequent to coating formation occurring around hydrogen bubbles formed on the Mg surface during immersion (was) reported. Other studies have illustrated that non-uniform and porous CaP coating on Mg alloys can be attributed to the substrate having a non-uniform morphology and the presence of Mg2 ions inhibiting crystal formation.
Translation - German Die für die Beschichtung mit CaP verwendeten biomimetischen Techniken werden in künstlicher Körperflüssigkeit (engl.: simulated body fluids SBF) bei nah-physiologischen Bedingungen durchgeführt. Aus der Lösung werden CaP-Phasen ausgefällt und auf dem gewünschten Substrat ,angepflanzt'. (…) Die Technik ist relativ einfach in Aufbau und Durchführung und sie stellt eine kostengünstige Möglichkeit dar, um auf mehreren Proben gleichzeitig homogene Beschichtungen zu erhalten. Da diese Technik keinen Sichtkontakt erfordert, können auch komplexe Formen beschichtet werden. Es wird angenommen, dass die Produktion von Beschichtungen unter physiologischen Bedingungen CaP-Kristalle herstellen wird, die dem Knochenmineral ähnlicher sind als CaP-Beschichtungen, die unter Verwendung von anderen Verfahren angelagert wurden, welche nicht-physiologischen pH-Wert, Temperatur oder Komposition beinhalten. Kürzlich wurde in einer Studie festgestellt, dass die Veränderung des pH-Wertes und der Temperatur die Produktion bestimmter CaP-Phasen begünstigen kann. Des Weiteren konnte gezeigt werden, dass die Geometrie des zu beschichtenden Substrats einen Einfluss auf die CaP-Phase hat, die sich schließlich auf die Oberfläche des Substrats niederschlägt. (...) Bei diesem Verfahren werden in der Regel Vorbehandlungen durchgeführt. Sie dienen der Modifikation der Reaktivität der Oberfläche des zu beschichtenden Substrats, des Verhaltens von Mg und/oder der Eigenschaften der Beschichtung. In den meisten Studien werden dafür entweder alkalische Lösungen, normalerweise NaOH in variierenden Konzentrationen, oder saure Lösungen, normalerweise HCl oder HF in variierenden Konzentrationen, verwendet. Als Alternative konzentrierten sich Studien auf Temperatur-Vorbehandlungen oder saure oder alkalische Nachbehandlungen beim biomimetischen Verfahren.
Es ist erwiesen, dass biomimetische Beschichtungstechniken als Methode zur Beschichtung von Mg und seinen Legierungen gut geeignet sind. In Studien zu biomimetischen Beschichtungen auf biologisch nicht abbaubaren Materialien, wie Titansubstraten, wurde der Einfluss der Eintauchzeit in SBF auf das Korrosionspotential nicht berücksichtigt. Vorangegangene Untersuchungen haben gezeigt, dass das anhaltende Eintauchen in SBF nur dann zu einer dickeren Beschichtung führt, wenn verfügbare Calcium- und Phosphationen im Überfluss vorhanden sind, d.h. die Konzentration der SBF hoch genug ist. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass ein zweites Eintauchen in frische SBF unter diesen Umständen effektiv ist. Verschiedene Autoren sind sich einig, dass die Adaption biomimetischer Beschichtungsverfahren auf biologisch abbaubare Substrate, wie Mg, vorteilhaft wäre. Diese könnte durch eine Reduktion der Inkubationszeit in SBF erreicht werden, wodurch sich die mögliche Abbaureaktion während des Beschichtungsprozesses minimieren würde. Des Weiteren sind biomimetisch auf Titan aufgebrachte CaP-Beschichtungen dicht, vollständig, einheitlich und nicht porös, wie durch die horizontale Bindung der CaP-Kristalle durch die Beschichtung gezeigt wird. Im Gegenteil dazu konnte (…) über die Bildung von nicht-einheitlichen und porösen CaP-Kristallen auf Mg-Substraten berichtet werden, welche in Folge der Beschichtungsbildung um Wasserstoffbläschen auftraten, die sich während des Eintauchens auf der Oberfläche des Mg bildeten. In anderen Studien wurde gezeigt, dass nicht-einheitliche und poröse CaP-Beschichtungen auf Mg-Legierungen dem Substrat, das keine einheitliche Morphologie besitzt und der Präsenz von Mg2 -Ionen, die die Kristallbildung bremsen, zugeordnet werden können.

My wish to become a translator manifested itself during my Bachelor's course in Multilingual Communication at Cologne University of Applied Sciences, when I was on my semester abroad in London. As an intern at Rosetta Translation, I got a feeling for what it takes to work freelance and after that I wanted to feel it for real.
