Back in 2003 I was hired as an intern by Bayer, at Leverkussen, Germany. I worked for them translating some web content (when the web 2.0 didn’t even exist yet) from German to English and Spanish, and editing contents in English and Spanish as well. Since then, I’ve been a freelance translator (in several languages) - that means more than ten years of experience.
As well as extensive experience translating, and being a member of the American Translators Association , I also hold several different university degrees in different fields. I guess the benefits of it are obvious - as one becomes confortable with different vocabulary in different contexts, and so on.
- Master in European Integration - Intl. Politics & Economics (Universitat Autonoma Barcelona - Hankuk University of Seoul)
- Graduated in Journalism (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona)
- M.A. in Clinical Psychology (Columbia University, New York)
- Graduated in Psychology at UAB (Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona), with an ERASMUS at University of Reading (UK)
- Graduated in Audiovisual Communication (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya)
- Master in scriptwriting (ESCAC, Barcelona)
- I also took several classes at the Journalism School, as well as the Film School, at Columbia University (New York), to improve both my fiction and non-fiction writing skills.
On the other hand, I've always been an internationally-oriented person, and I have working experience in several countries; among them USA, UK, Australia, Germany, Italy, China, South Korea, Thailand and obviously Spain.
If interested, one can take a quick glance at my "non-translator" CV at my Linkedin Profile.
Once again, there are unlimited benefits in having extensive experience in other fields when being a professional translator.
