Some people dream of hanging up their briefcase and running a boutique hotel by the sea. Anchalika Kijkanakorn went ahead and did just that.
A decade ago, the U.S.-educated Thai businesswoman was a rising executive at GE Capital Financial Services in London. “At one point, I had an apartment in Cologne, one in Brussels, and one in London, and I thought what am I doing here?” says Ms. Anchalika. “I had already seen a lot, done quite a lot, but this wasn’t home and I felt that if I didn’t go home [to Thailand] now I wasn’t sure if I ever would.”
Ms. Anchalika, whose family owned a construction company, quit her job in 2003 and founded Bangkok-based Akaryn Hospitality Management Services. She opened her first hotel, the 23-suite Aleenta Hua Hin that year. Since then, the firm has opened two more hotels, also in Thailand, in Phuket and Koh Samui. Ms. Anchalika is currently gearing up for the December opening of a 50-villa hotel located on a secluded beach in Koh Samui’s northeast.

A court ruling this week clears up some gray areas in cloud music.
The decision by the U.S. District Court in New York could pave the way for Google's Music, Amazon.com's Cloud Player, Dropbox and other providers of online storage services to add time-saving features.
Amazon and Google have been cautious in how they implemented their respective Web-based music lockers, a CNN study found. Amazon Cloud Drive and Music Beta by Google each upload users' entire music catalog and store separate copies of each track, a very lengthy process even with today's broadband Internet speeds, according to the study.
