Bio

Over the years, I have contributed considerably at in the capacity of a Japanese to English and Korean to English translator for academic articles relating to a wide variety of technical fields. I have completed nearly all requirements for a bachelor's of science degree in geology from Brigham Young University, and in the course of my studies have gained a broad understanding of chemistry, physics, and earth sciences. I have also served as part of the corporate staff for companies specializing in personal care and health supplement products as part of my professional career, and in so doing have gained a strong understanding of industry applications of the life sciences.

My professional experience as a freelance translator includes the following, with my degree of experience indicated for each area:

Medical translations: Importation approval notifications for pharmaceutical products, medical studies, and patient records from Japanese hospitals, January 2018 to present, approximately 12 assignments.

Biology: Academic articles on distribution of invasive snail species in Japan, parasites infesting small invertebrates, study on ticks infecting domestic cats, behavior of porpoises/dolphins, Vitamin C content of bell peppers grown in Miyazaki, Japan, Pesticide effects on pear cultivation in South Korea, etc. June 2017 to present, approximately five assignments.

Electrical/civil engineering: Academic articles and specifications on electronics: May 2017 to present, approximately seven assignments.

Earth sciences: Academic articles and presentations on deep-sea exploration of underwater resources, climate change effect on permafrost, climate change effect on snowfall in Japan, etc. September 2018 to present, approximately 10 assignments.

Chemistry: Study on Academic articles (study on chemical reactions used to produce hydrogen for use in fuel cells, study on use of nanofiber technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, etc.). June 2017 to present, approximately eight assignments.

Physics: Proofreading of academic articles. November 2019-present, approximately two assignments.

Mathematics: Academic articles, November 2019-present, approximately three assignments.

In addition to the areas listed, I also have an excellent track record in less-technical translations for financial or business-related materials, many of which I encountered as side tasks in the course of my career in corporate settings. Regarding the fee for my services, I can work for the rate of 0.06 US dollars per character in the source text. I would be thrilled to help out your agency with any Japanese/Korean-related tasks available, and feel that my professional and academic experience would allow me to become a major contributor. I thank you for your consideration, and look forward to hearing from you.
