Translation - English s:You said that Chen Si is a named that you changed to later to let others think, so can you tell me what your real name is?
c:My real name is Chen Houjun.
s:Ok, let’s talk about the volunteers. Where do you usually find them? What do they do? Are they really helpful when you are saving people? What kind of significance do they have with regard to your work?
c:The volunteers come over because they have read about me in the newspaper or saw me on TV. They contact me themselves. There are a lot of people who sign up for this work, but very few people actually show up to the bridge. I think as long as the volunteers participate by letting them assist on the bridge, thereby understanding this society and these psychological problems better, I think it is a very good thing. And I also hope that they can pass this love on to others. Right now, I don’t have any permanent volunteers. What I mean is, in the past I had two. After they graduated from school, they left the city. Right now the volunteers are only some churches, for example St. Paul’s church and some others. Now the work these volunteers do is helping to deal with the aftermath of an attempted suicide case. As for work on the bridge, in general, most schools will not allow their students to go to the bridge. And why is that? They think the bridge is too dangerous. So I want volunteers to help me with dealing with people off the bridge. For example, if I save a girl, I can’t follow her around 24 hours a day, including when she goes to the toilet. You can’t have a man following a woman to the toilet, so you must have a female volunteer. So right now there are a lot of volunteers from St. Paul’s Church. They will deal with the psychological side of the work or with the monitoring side. This is how it is.
