Translation - English The postoperative complications of thyroidectomy define its morbidity, which is very low nowadays due to the rare emergence of these complications. Regarding the immediate postoperative complications of thyroidectomy, the most serious ones are the injury of the recurrent laryngeal nerve, hypoparathyroidism and postoperative hemorrhage. More rare and less serious complications include the edema of skin flaps, serous collection, the purulence of the wound and the injury of the external brunch of the superior laryngeal nerve. Further postoperative complications of thyroidectomy appear at a later stage and they are hypothyroidism, which shows the effectiveness of the operation in patients with toxic goiter, and the recurrence of hyperthyroidism and of the nodular goiter.
