Source text - Russian

It was launched as part of Avon’s ‘Say “No” to domestic violence’ campaign, with support from The National Centre for Violence Prevention “Anna’. By calling 8-8000-7000-600 (09:00-21:00 Moscow time) from any region, it is possible to get free help from the centre’s qualified psychologists and solicitors. According to Marina Pisklakova-Parker, the director of ‘Anna” centre, a third of all women have experienced various forms of domestic abuse (psychological, physical, sexual or economic). On average 400 Russian women die from abuse every year.
Not just psychological and legal assistance will be available over the phone (for example, how to write report to the police), but also information about existing residential help centres in the region, women’s shelters and others. M. Pisklakova-Parker noted that the launch of the helpline is the first step in addressing domestic violence in our country. The ‘Anna” centre also plans to work on legislation in this area.
According to Angela Cretu, the CEO of Avon in Eastern Europe, the social program launched by Avon in 2004 works in 50 countries. It aims to raise public awareness about the problems of domestic abuse and how to prevent it. By the end of 2010, the company had donated more than $30 million towards awareness campaigns, educational programs and direct support to victims of domestic abuse. Russian singer Valeria acts as the ambassador for the program.
