Source text - English In its latest report, the human rights organisation Amnesty International catalogues the extent to which human rights are being violated. The report focuses on the state of civil liberties round the world and provides a frightening list of torture, state terror, and the suppression of free speech. Perhaps more worrying is the fact that there seems to be no link between these events and the ideology of the government in power.
Amnesty’s individual country reports deal mostly with the sins and failures of governments, or administrations led by warlords. In the past Amnesty has been criticised for being biased in its reporting. It was felt to be too sympathetic to anti-capitalist regimes and opponents of globalisation.
But the 2009 report shows no such favouritism. For example, it finds that last year China’s authorities intensified their use of administrative forms of detention allowing police to imprison individuals without trial. The Olympic Games did not create a freer, happier state. Instead there is increased repression throughout the country with tighter state control over human rights activists, religious groups, lawyers and journalists.
In many countries, Amnesty detected a retreat in women’s rights, often in the name of religion. Dozens of Iranian women’s rights campaigners were detained and interrogated. Some were tried; up to ten were sentenced to prison terms and at least two to flogging. Even Finland - often seen as a model of sexual equality - is severely criticised. Less than 10% of rapes in that country are reported to the police, and only one in seven of those cases leads to a conviction.
With regard to its home country, Britain, Amnesty’s main complaint is not about the British authorities’ own actions but about efforts to deport people to places where they are likely - in Amnesty’s view - to be tortured. In at least two ways, the report suggests, torture and inhumanity have been globalised to the point where few countries can be islands of virtue. States that would never practise torture found themselves colluding with the extraordinary rendition of terror suspects. And migration on a huge scale has tested the ability of countries to deal humanely with desperate people.
Translation - Persian (Farsi) سازمان عفو بین الملل در آخرین گزارش خود ابعاد جهانی نقض حقوق بشر را شرح میدهد. گزارش بر وضعیت حقوق مدنی در سراسر جهان متمرکز است و شامل فهرست هولناکی از شکنجه، تروریسم دولتی و سرکوب آزادی بیان است. شاید ترسناکترین جنبۀ گزارش این باشد که هیچ ارتباطی بین این وقایع و ایده ئولوژی نظام حاکم وجود ندارد.
گزارش سازمان عفو بین الملل بیشتر به گناهان و خطاهای دولتها و نظامهای حکومتی تحت سیطرۀ جنگ سالاران میپردازد. در گذشته «عفو بین الملل» به علت جانبداری در گزارشهایش مورد انتقاد قرار گرفته است چون احساس میشود که این سازمان بیشتر به سوی رژیم های ضد سرمایه داری ومخالفان «جهانی شدن» تمایل دارد.
ولی در گزارش سال 2009 اثری از جانبداری موجود نیست. مثلاً این گزارش حاکی از آن است که مقامات چین بیش از پیش از روش بازداشت استفاده میکنند و به پلیس اجازه میدهند افراد را بدون محاکمه حبس کند. حتی بازیهای المپیک نتوانست چین را به یک کشور آزادتر با فضای شادتری تبدیل کند. به جای آن در سراسر کشور سرکوب رو به افزایش است و فعالین حقوق بشر، گروههای مذهبی، وکلا و روزنامه نگاران تحت کنترل روزافرون و سختگیرانۀ دولت قرار دارند.
در بسیاری از کشورها «عفو بین الملل» شاهد پس رفت در زمینۀ حقوق زنان بوده است، که اغلب به نام دین انجام میشود. دهها تن از فعالان حقوق زنان درایران بازداشت شده و مورد بازجویی قرار گرفتند. برخی محاکمه شدند و نزدیک ده نفر به زندان و دو نفر به شلاق محکوم گردیدند. حتی فنلاند که اغلب از آن به عنوان کشور نمونه در زمینۀ برابری حقوق زن و مرد یاد میشود مورد انتقاد قرار گرفته است. کمتر از ده درصد موارد تجاوز در آن کشور به پلیس گزارش میگردد و از هر هفت مورد تنها یکی به محکومیت مجرم می انجامد.
انتقاد اصلی «عفو بین الملل» در مورد کشور مبداء خود، بریتانیا نه دربارۀ اقدامات اداره های دولتی بلکه دربارۀ تلاش برای اخراج پناهجویان به کشورهایی است که - به زعم «عفو بین الملل» - ممکن است در آنجا تحت شکنجه قرار گیرند. گزارش به دو نحو حاکی از آن است که شکنجه و رفتار غیر انسانی جهانی شده اند، تا حدی که تنها تعداد کمی از کشورها میتوانند به عنوان «جزیرۀ نیکی» مورد استناد قرار گیرند. حتی کشورهایی که خود شکنجه نمیکنند درعملیات استرداد فراقانونی مظنونین به تروریسم همکاری نموده اند. پدیدۀ مهاجرت در مقیاس وسیع نیزمحکی برای سنجش ظرفیت کشورها برای پاسخ به انسانهای عاجز است.

I am a qualified Translator and interpreter based in London. I am originally from Iran and Farsi in my mother tongue. I moved to UK in 2003 and I now have dual nationality as Iranian and British. As part of my education background in Iran, I studied humanities, which included history, literature, languages and philosophy. I studied law in my country but since moving to UK I have decided to pursue a career in linguistics as it has always been my interest after law.
Academically, completion of a Masters degree in Translation Studies at SOAS University allowed me to gain a good balance of both methodological and practical skills in linguistic in Farsi and English languages. It has also provided me with more command of the idiomatic and formal usage of Farsi and English, as well as an extensive grasp of technical vocabulary in commerce, law and medicine. To progress in my career I have undertaken the Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI) exam in the subject of law this year.
I have done written and oral translation from Persian to English and English to Persian for individual clients. I have worked in different areas of London and some areas of Essex and Kent. Some of the agencies that I currently work for include the Big Word, Language Line Transperfect and Language Connect.
In my translation jobs I cover a wide range of areas but mostly legal and commercial. In my three years of experience I have translated around 200,000 words, which this includes two books and a comprehensive glossary. However I have also experience in translating literature and poetry as well. For my translation jobs I translate from English to Farsi and Farsi to English, I can also translate from Dari (Afghan Persian) to English but not vice versa. Finally I do proof-reading as well as transcription.
For my interpreting service, I interpret for are NHS patients but I also have done work for social workers, counselling, embassies and asylum seekers. I hold a CRB certificate for my interpreting work.
Some of my clients that I have worked for include the Big Word, Language Connect, Language line, Transperfect, Kwintessential, World Translation, Straker Ltd, Dow Jones, BBC Persian, Red Cross, etc.
