METHODS: Using hospital discharge abstracts of patients with acute appendicitis from all acute care hospitals in Ontario for the fiscal years 1991-1998 coded for the Canadian Institute for Health Information, we studied the demographic features, particularly age and sex, length of hospital stay (LOS), incidence, and seasonal variation of acute appendicitis
Translation - Spanish INTRODUCCIÓN: Con el objetivo de describir la epidemiología de la apendicitis aguda en la provincia de Ontario, hemos realizado un estudio cohorte retrospectivo basado en la población entre la totalidad de los pacientes que presentaban esa enfermedad.
MÉTODOS: Estudiamos los rasgos demográficos, en particular edad y sexo, tiempo de permanencia en el hospital (LOS, por sus siglas en inglés), incidencia y variación estacional de la apendicitis aguda. Para ello se utilizaron resúmenes de alta hospitalaria pertenecientes a pacientes con apendicitis aguda de todos los hospitales de agudos de Ontario, registrados entre los años fiscales 1991 y 1998 para el Instituto canadiense para la información de salud.
