As Emissões Otoacústicas evocadas, EOAE, fornecem informações a respeito do mecanismo coclear sendo, a avaliação mais recomendada para a Triagem Auditiva Neonatal. O sistema olivococlear eferente medial (SOCM) tem sido estudado através da modulação das células ciliadas externas (CCE) nas respostas obtidas das EOAE. Considerando que as vias centrais estejam íntegras e com função normal, SOCM pode ser ativado pela estimulação contralateral à orelha testada, produzindo uma diminuição dos valores das amplitudes destas emissões. A presença de supressão indica que, quando ativado, o SOCM inibe as contrações das CCE, provocando a diminuição da amplitude das EOAE em indivíduos otologicamente normais. Objetivo: Verificar a amplitude das EOAE por estímulos transientes, a magnitude e ocorrência do efeito de supressão das EOAET, em recém-nascidos a termo e pré-termo sem risco e com risco para alterações auditivas. Material e método: Participaram deste estudo 156 recém-nascidos, de ambos os sexos, com idade pós concepcional de até 54 semanas, alocados em 3 grupos de acordo com a idade gestacioanal. O G1 foi composto de 83 recém-nascidos a termo e o G2A de 73 pré-termo. Este último, subdividido em G2A, com 42 recém-nascidos sem risco para alterações auditivas e G2B com 31 recém-nascidos com risco. As EOAET foram obtidas através de estímulo clique linear, apresentado à intensidade de 84 dB NPS com o equipamento Echocheck ILO EOA Screener, Otodynamics. Para a supressão foi utilizado o ruído branco apresentado de forma contralateral, a 60 dB NPS, através do fone TDH 39 do equipamento Audiometro AD27, Interacoustic. Para análise dos resultados, foram utilizados os testes estatísticos: Mann-Whitney, qui-quadrado ou exato de Fisher, ANOVA de Kruskal-Wallis e múltiplas de Dunn, postos sinalizados de Wilcoxon e Mc Nemar corrigido, sendo considerado como significante o p < 0,05. Resultado: Observou-se diferença significativa nas amplitudes das EOAET, maior em G1 do que em G2. Não houve diferença das EOAET entre as variáveis sexo e orelha. O grupo G1 apresentou amplitude das emissões estatisticamente maiores que G2B na orelha direita. Não se observou diferença na magnitude da supressão das EOAET entre G1 e G2, e G1, G2A e G2B. Não foi visto diferença na ocorrência de supressão das EOAET entre os sexos nem entre as orelhas, assim como entre os grupos G1 e G2, e G1, G2A e G2B. Conclui-se então, que o grupo a termo apresentou amplitude das emissões maiores do que o grupo pré-termo e a supressão das EOAET ocorreu, em 83,1% do grupo G1, 88,1% do G2A e 93,6% do G2B em ambas as orelhas. Não houve influencia da prematuridade nem dos fatores de risco.

ABSTRACT
Evoked otoacoustic emissions, EOAEs, provide information about the cochlear mechanism, the most recommended assessment for Newborn Hearing Screening. The medial efferent olivocochlear system (MOCS) has been studied through the modulation of outer hair cells (OHC) in the responses obtained from the EOAEs. Taking into consideration that the central pathways are intact and with normal function, MOCS can be activated by the contralateral stimulation of the ear tested, producing a decrease in the values of the amplitude of these emissions. The presence of suppression indicates that the MOCS, when activated, inhibits the OHC contractions, triggering a decrease in the amplitude of EOAEs in otologically normal individuals.
Objective: To assess the amplitude of EOAE by transient stimuli, the magnitude and occurrence of the suppression effect of TEOAEs in preterm and term newborns with and without risk of hearing impairment.
Materials and Methods: The group studied consisted of 156 newborns of both sexes, aged up to 54 postconceptional weeks, allocated into three groups according to their gestational age. Group G1 was composed of 83 term newborns and G2A of 73 preterm infants. The latter was subdivided into G2A, composed of 42 newborns with no risk to hearing and G2B with 31 newborns at risk. The TEOAEs were obtained by linear click stimulus presented at the intensity of 84 dB SPL with the equipment Echocheck ILO OAE Screener, Otodynamics. For suppression, contralateral white noise was used, at 60 dB SPL, through TDH 39 phones of the equipment Audiometer AD27, Interacoustic. For data analysis, the following statistical tests were used: Mann-Whitney, chi-square or Fisher exact test, Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA and Dunn multiple, post marked Wilcoxon and corrected McNemar , with p< 0,05 being considered significant.
Results: There was a significant difference in the amplitudes of TEOAEs, higher in G1 than in G2. There was no difference in TEOAEs between the variables of gender and ear. G1 group was shown to have a statistically higher range of emissions than G2B in the right ear. There was no difference in the magnitude of TEOAE suppression between G1 and G2, and G1, G2A and G2B. No difference was observed in the occurrence of suppression of TEOAE between sexes or between the ears, nor between G1 and G2, and G1, G2A and G2B. The conclusion is that the term group presented a greater range of emissions than the preterm group and TEOAE suppression occurred in 83.1% of G1, 88.1% and 93.6% of G2A G2B in both ears. There was no influence of prematurity or risk factors.

INTO THIN AIR
Have you heard of a place where battleships and bombers vanish into thin air? During a hundred-year period, it is believed that over fifty ships and twenty planes were spirited away while cruising through the Bermuda Triangle. Also known as the Devil's Triangle, its three corners extend across the Atlantic Ocean from Bermuda to Miami, Florida to San Juan, Puerto Rico.
One of the most famous disappearances was Flight 19. On December 5, 1945, five U.S Navy avenger bombers mysteriously vanished while on a routine training mission. Lieutenant Charles Taylor, who kept in contact on the radio until nothing could be heard, led the mission. Astonishingly, the rescue plane sent to recover the squadron never returned either. It vanished into thin air.
Many conspiracy theories have evolved. Could the lost city of Atlantis be buried beneath the waves? Are aliens abducting humans in the Triangle? Or is it the Devil himself snatching lost souls? Experts dismiss folklore with more scientific explanations. The deepest point in the Atlantic lies beneath the Bermuda Triangle. Therefore, some believe the depth and water temperatures cause broken vessels to sink precipitously. It's also one of the most trafficked stretches of ocean, naturally increasing the odds for accidents. Additionally, weather and strong currents account for many tragedies.

Você já ouviu falar de um lugar onde encouraçados e bombardeiros desaparecem no nada? Durante um período de 100 anos, acredita-se que cerca de 50 navios e e 20 aviões desapareceram enquando cruzavam o Triângulo das Bermudas. Também conhecido como Triângulo do Diabo, seus três vértices se estendem pelo Oceano Atlântico, das Bermudas até Miami, na Flórida até San Juan, em Porto Rico.
Um dos desaparecimentos mais famosos foi o do vôo 19. Em 5 de Dezembro de 1945, cinco bombardeiros da marinha americana desapareceram misteriosamente quando estavam numa missão de treinamento de rotina. O Tenente Charles Taylor, que manteve contato pelo rádio até que nada mais se ouviu, comandava a missão. Surpreendentemente, o avião de resgate enviado para recuperar o esquadrão também nunca mais voltou. Ele desapareceu em pleno ar.
Surgiram muitas teorias de conspiração desde então. Será que a cidade perdida de Atlântida estaria soterrada debaixo das ondas? Será que alienígenas estariam abduzindo humanos no Triângulo? Ou seria o próprio diabo arrebantando almas perdidas? Especialistas deixam de lado o folclore com explicações mais científicas. O ponto mais profundo no Atlântico se encontra abaixo do Triângulo das Bermudas. Portanto, alguns acreditam que a profundidade e a temperatura da água fazem com que embarcações quebradas afundem precipitadamente. É também uma das regiões do oceano com mais tráfego, o que naturalmente aumenta a possibilidade de acidentes. Além do mais, o tempo e fortes correntes dão conta de explicar muitas tragédias.
