Source text - English There are 22 regular pairs of chromosomes. The 23rd pair are X and Y - the chromosomes that determine whether someone is male or female. The stripes on the chromosomes are bands of genes that show up when stained with chemicals and examined under a microscope.
1. There are more than 3000 genes on Chromosome 1, with instructions to make more than 3000 different chemicals. If you are deaf, it may be because a gene on this chromosome has gone wrong.
2. Chromosome 2 has as many as 1800 genes. It plays a large part in makinf the chemicals that build up your body's defences against desease.
3. If you are vertically challenged, you can blame Chromosome 3, which is home to the height genes.
4. Chromosome 4 has more than 700 genes. If you have red hair, it is because of one of the genes on this chromosome.
9. A little shortsighted? Look no further than chromosome 9, where you may find the faulty gene responsible.
11. You could say Chromosome 11 has got smelly genes, because most of the genes for the smell receptors in your nose are found on it.
14. If your immunesystem - your body's defence against germs - is not working well, the culprit may be chromosome 14.
19. Among the 1700 genes on Chromosome 19 are the ones that decide whether your eyes will be blue, green, brown or grey.
X The X Chromosome is one of the sex chromosomes that decide whether you're a boy or a girl. There are more than 2000 genes on the X. If you've got two marching X chromosomes, you're a girl. But unlike the other chromosomes, the sex chromosomes do not always come in matching pairs..
..The other sex chromosome is Y. If you've got one X and one Y, you're a boy. The Y has just 78 genes, but size isn't everything!

Source text - German Drei Millionen Menschen besuchen jährlich Amerikas ältesten Nationalpark. Sie fotografieren die Bisons und Wapiti-Hirsche, die hier umherstapfen, und hoffen, Grizzlybären, Wölfe oder Luchse zu erspähen. Doch vor allem kommen sie wegen der Geysire, der brodelnden Schlammlöcher, der kochend heißen Quellen.
An mehr als 10 000 Stellen im Park blubbert, dampft und stinkt es oder schießt Wasser bis zu 100 Meter hoch aus dem Grund. So unwirklich und feindselig wirke die Landschaft, dass man an die Hölle und das Jüngste Gericht denken müsse, bekannte ein Pionier des 19. Jahrhunderts.
Er ahnte nicht, wie nah er der Wahrheit damit kam.
Denn in Yellowstone schlummert ein Monster biblischen Ausmaßes. Rund acht Kilometer unter den Füßen der Besucher liegt eine der gewaltigsten Magmakammern der Welt - mit einer Ausdehnung von 2500 Quadratkilometern, dazu acht Kilometer dick und gefüllt mit einem mehr als 800 Grad heißen Gemisch aus Gas, flüssigem und festem Gestein. Kurz: Yellowstone ist nichts anderes als ein Vulkan.
Aber kein gewöhnlicher. Einen Kegel sucht man hier vergebens, auch ein Krater scheint zunächst nicht sichtbar. Lange waren es nur die meterhohen Ascheablagerungen und das heiße Geblubber allenthalben, das Geologen aufmerksam machte. Jahrelang vermaßen und analysierten sie das Gestein, bis Satellitenfotos bestätigten, was vom Boden schwer zu erkennen war: Weite Teile des Parks sowie Gebiete darüber hinaus - insgesamt etwa 4000 Quadratkilometer - bilden den Krater eines Vulkans.
Oder besser gesagt: eines „Supervulkans“.
