Bio
I am originally from Cusco, Peru. My first language (mother tongue) was Spanish but because my mother is English it too was spoken at home at all times. I was educated in an American school while living in Lima, Peru and was sent to school in the UK for four years. I consider myself bilingual. I have lived in the United States for the past thirty years, but visit Peru every year to see family and friends. I am currently employed as a vocational rehabiliation counsultant/counselor with worker's compensation candidates; developing vocational programs for industrially injured workers This is a job that requires empathy and understanding, strong communication skills, report writing and mediation. I mostly deal with the Spanish speaking clients. Because very little of the forms they need to sign are in Spanish, I have translated them to better assist the clients in understanding program procedures. I have, in addition, experience working with the public, as a teacher to young college students and as a caseworker. While completing my studies I was employed as a adjuct at UNLV teaching Spanish to undergraduate students. Prior to this, I was employed as a member of a team that prepared mature “displaced” women to market their skills and take their place in the workforce. The job was gratifying as it entailed dealing with persons from varied backgrounds. As a free lance translator/interpreter I have done medical translations for the WorlDoc Foundation (www.worlddoc.org). But my preference is translating literature. My MA in Foreign Language is from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. My thesis consited of translating a play from English into Peruvian Spanish to include a paper in the theory of drama translation. My philosophy is that assisting people in any field involves establishing a positive environment in order to broaden an individual's horizon within the work environment to ultimately enable them to function socially and intellectually.
