Mahmoud has developed significant translation and interpreting skills and acumen through ten years of service as Language Officer at the Ministry of Defense and five years of freelance work with significant international and regional organizations. Mahmoud’s proficiency has been formally recognized as by the United Nations which placed his name on its roster of qualified translators, upon passing the 2009 Competitive Examinations. Many other reputable organizations, including the IMF, the FAO, have added Mahmoud to their translators and/or interpreters roster, upon obtaining adequate performance appraisals on the job, or passing screening tests.

Mahmoud also holds language-related credentials including: the Professional Certificate in Interpreting, with distinction, from the American University in Cairo; the Advanced Trados Certification; the Basic American Language Instructor Diploma and the Advanced English Language Instructor Diploma, also with distinction, from the Defense Language Institute of the United States.

As a translator, Mahmoud produces self-revised Arabic and into English translations, in a very wide range of technical fields, including: finance and economics; military and security, law and international law; diplomacy and international affairs; and science and technology. And as a conference interpreter, Mahmoud demonstrates a high level of concentration and split-second accuracy, as well as a remarkable ability to work under continuous stress and deliver clear interpretation on an exceedingly broad range of subjects. Teaching translation and interpreting at the American University in Cairo since 2003 is a third pillar of strength in Mahmoud’s service provision career.
