Bio
I came to translation in an unconventional way. For over twenty years, I worked in businesses where I was the only person who could translate English to French and vice versa. Everything that needed translating ended up on my desk: press releases, promotional material, educational material, presentations, company policies and procedures, warnings and notices.

Last fall, I translated a French book into English, "Prévenir et gérer les plaintes de harcèlement au travail", (Éditions de la pleine lune, 2004). The book was aimed at employers and required translation of legal, psychological and medical terms. The sample scenarios in the book used everyday language to express sarcasm, sexual innuendo, threats both blatant and subtle, and emotional outbursts. My experience with this client was so positive that it led me to establish my own company, Glyphex Services, in November 2004.

I graduated with distinction from the Teacher of Adults program at St. Lawrence College. I have taught French for a community college, for the Berlitz School of Languages, and for hospitals in Eastern Ontario. As a teacher, my performance has been consistently appraised as superior and “beyond normal expectations”. I have also taught English, as a second language in Asia, and in the private sector. My students have come from a wide variety of backgrounds - the professionsal, business, the high-tech industry, factories and construction sites.

In 1971, two separate tests of my English language skills placed me in the highest percentile. This means that I was ranked ahead of 99 out of every 100 people being tested.
