Spanish to English: Cuba Classic Rally
Source text - Spanish CUBA CLASSIC is unique: the first time classic cars have ever been shipped to Cuba from the rest of the world. The rally will travel the length and breadth of Cuba, introducing participants to all of the many wonderful features of this proud island nation: its
friendly people, stunning scenery, perfect white-sand beaches, ancient and glorious Spanish colonial architecture, extraordinary caves, beautiful mountains, fascinating museums, colourful parties, cabarets and dances.
THE CARS, AND THEIR CREWS
CUBA CLASSIC will be open to two categories of cars: celebrating the Revolution of 1959, Pre-1960 cars will be eligible for the Authentic category, which will be divided into classes according to engine size and age. These are cars contemporary with the majority of classics seen on Cuban roads, but will include exotic European cars not now seen in Cuba. Post-1960 cars up to 1969 will also be admitted, to the
Spirit category. A maximum of 40 cars will be admitted (limited by availability of hotels), with priority given to Pre-1960 cars. Crews of two people will be normal, though up to four will be accepted. Entries will come principally from the UK, but also all Europe, Australia, Canada and possibly also Asia and South America. This will be an exclusive event that will attract entries from people of influence, in the highest income brackets. It is likely that enthusiasts from USA will also want to enter, but we await guidance on whether this will be acceptable and of course respect your decision.
CUBA
To make this rally possible, we need your support to ensure that it is possible to bring our guests and their cars in and out of Cuba without delays or difficulties. Assistance with promotional costs would also be greatly appreciated. We need permission to use the roads – purely for touring.
Assistance would be appreciated, in obtaining the best prices for our guests at Cuba’s hotels, museums, caves, circuits etc, and introducing us to the best cigar makers, rum producers, sugar producers, and other uniquely Cuban industries, where we could arrange visits.
OUR RALLIES
Our events combine tourism with education, relaxation and competition. Participants receive route instructions, plot the route on maps provided and take specified photographs to prove they have followed the correct route. They also compete on private circuits to match a set time (average speed 50kph). They enjoy visits to places of interest on the route, buy souvenirs and write about their experiences on returning home.
PRESS & PR
A professional rally photographer will follow the entire event, and journalists from newspapers and magazines will be invited to take part. Our events always enjoy worldwide publicity: CUBA CLASSIC will make headlines everywhere because it is unique, the first event of its kind in Cuba and the PR benefit for the Cuban tourist industry will be huge.
THE ROUTE
The precise route needs careful planning, but our outline plan is:
Days 1-3: Havana hotel, allowing participants to enjoy Havana’s many attractions, museums, shows, historic buildings etc and including, if possible, a lap of the Cuban Grand Prix circuit of the 1950s that included the Malecon, plus a lap of the 1960 GP de Libertad circuit.
Days 4-6: Vinales hotel, visits to the Santo Tomas and del Indio caves, Pinar del Rio, San Diego de los Banos, roads to the coasts and over the Cordillera de Guaniguanic, visit tobacco plantations
Day 7: Soroa hotel, Las Terrazas, Sierra del Rosario
Days 8-9: Trinidad hotel, Cienfuegos, Santa Clara, Sierra de Guamuhaya, Playa Larga, Playa Giron, waterfalls, crocodiles, castle
Days 10-11: Cayo Coco hotel, day off at the beach (and for car repairs if needed)

Translation - English Foreword
There are a great number of documentary films showing the Cuban cheerfulness by means of its music and dance; however, there are no films that recreate the bonds between this music and the music from another island of the Caribbean: Martinique. Neither there are films that establish a “wise” comparison in which the “route of Son”, an authentic “route of the heart”, is sketched in a simple way.
This documentary intends to be a contribution to the culture and tradition development of the Caribbean as a whole. The route of “Son” is certainly the journey outlined from the Martinique *Mornes to the “fincas” in Santiago de Cuba, to Havana; but it is also the top musical illustration of a Caribbean archipelago, like a crossroads of Caribbean music, people and life stories, looking at the Americas.
Undoubtedly, the Cuban “Son” has been the most worldwide spread afro-Caribbean music of all times. Before travelling to the continent, this rhythm had the opportunity to visit different islands of the Caribbean; however we could appreciate its familiar tempos there, even without its influence. Due to its African roots, the “Son”, as well as most of the Afro-Cuban rhythms, can be compared to other music from the Caribbean region. In Martinique we can find some of them: La Biguine (Born in the city) and the bélé (born in the countryside).
Getting to know the similarities between the Martiniquais and Cuban music, is getting closer to the Caribbean way of life; is nurturing from the images in order to preserve their spirit.
The route of “Son” also has the vocation to become the route of the heart, earthly path where the hearts of men and women outline a course of accomplice encounters and other human connivances.
