I am a native Russian and Latvian freelance linguist with an MA degree in the English language.
Over more than 15 years I have acquired considerable experience working as a freelance translator and proofreader in the following language combinations:
English <> Russian English <> Latvian Russian <> Latvian
Comfortable with texts from a wide variety of fields, ranging from legal texts (court rulings, proceedings, legal correspondence, application forms, statements, etc.), legislation and regulatory documents to IT texts (software manuals), technical manuals and product descriptions to company websites, press-releases, tourism websites, brand literature and brochures, I approach every project, big or small, with equally high standards of language quality.
Where in addition to rendering the content in the target language, the customer requires that the conveyed message fits cultural background, conventions and expectations of the local audience, I am happy to offer transcreation service.
When translating texts intended for online use, as an additional stage of the project I can take care of SEO (search engine optimisation) for the target market(s). This includes research of local keywords using online tools (e.g. Ubersuggest, Google Suggest, Yandex Wordstat), replacing source language keywords with relevant keywords in the target language and optimisation of the target text for better SEO results.
Compliance with the client’s house style is an important point when taking on a new project. I take great care to study all available style guides and the client’s linguistic house rules, as well as research existing texts to identify the appropriate tone of voice for use in translation.
I work with a wide variety of CAT tools and am an advanced user of SDL Studio, memoQ, MemSource and Across. Where a project requires using the client’s own translation software or platform, as a quick learner, I can master the required new skills in a short time.
Where the source material is in the form of a recording rather than written text, and needs to be transcribed before being processed further, I can prepare an accurate transcript, adding time stamps and time codes if required.
Apart from usual MS Office and OpenOffice files, I am happy to work with other formats, such as xml, idml, indd, etc.
In addition, during the last 8 years I have been active in translating EU texts from Latvian into English, with the total page count now exceeding 2 500.
On top of translation skills, I have nine years' experience of managing translation projects of various degrees of complexity, from simple single language pair jobs to multilingual projects for a variety of customers, including pharmaceutical companies and EU institutions (the European Commission and the European Parliament).
