Bio
I am a freelance translator and conference interpreter, holding an MA in Applied Translation Studies from London Metropolitan University (2011) and a BA in French and English Language and Literature from the University of Craiova, Romania (2000).
In 2001 I received a Legal Translator and Interpreter Licence from the Romanian Ministry of Justice to translate between Romanian, English and French.
After my BA graduation
I provided translation and interpreting services as an independent
professional to a variety of clients, while also (at times) working
in full time teaching, tutoring or customer care/technical assistance
roles.
In 2016 I became a full time translator and interpreter assisting the UK police forces, Home Office, Crown Prosecution Service, National Offender Management Service, NHS, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority, NCA, Her Majesty's Courts and Tribunal Service, Department of Work and Pensions, Witness Care Unit Assessment and Intervention Teams with local Council departments etc.
As an interpreter I assist police officers, caseworkers, solicitors and road accident investigators with their communication needs in regards to Romanian clients.
Almost two decades after my graduation, I have had various opportunities to address most of the challenges in the field of written translation, and I overcame them each time as my goal has always been to provide meticulous, reliable and carefully chosen target language equivalents to achieve the closest matches in context and meaning while keeping in mind the expectations of the reader or audience or reader.
The postgraduate MA in Applied Translation Studies in (translation theory and practice) completed in 2011 took me through the academic training required to carry out a thorough text type analysis and the terminological research of parallel texts and specialised glossaries.
This research is a requirement for and a guarantee of a high quality standard of translation.
I translate mainly from the following fields: legal (contracts, loan agreements, court decisions etc), economic (banking, accounting, corporate documents) technical (manufacturing specifications, user guides, leaflets etc). I have also completed translations of highly specialised medical and even literary texts.
In the last few years the bulk of my translation projects has mainly consisted of legal documents (UK and Romanian legislation (acts), trial sheets, sentencing orders, removal orders), prisons leaflets and notifications for UK prisons, police statements, official letters and correspondence etc.
