Source text - English I remember reading once that some fellows use language to conceal thought, but it's been my experience that a good many more use it instead of thought.
A businessman's conversation should be regulated by fewer and simpler rules than any other function of the human animal. They are:
Have something to say.
Say it.
Stop talking.
Beginning before you know what you want to say and keeping on after you have said it lands a merchant in a lawsuit or the poorhouse, and the first is a short cut to the second. I maintain a legal department here, and it costs a lot of money, but it's to keep me from going to law.
It's all right when you are calling on a girl or talking with friends after dinner to run a conversation like a Sunday-school excursion, with stops to pick flowers; but in the office your sentences should be the shortest distance possible between periods. Cut out the introduction and the peroration, and stop before you get to secondly. You've got to preach short sermons to catch sinners; and deacons won't believe they need long ones themselves. Give fools the first and women the last word. The meat's always in the middle of the sandwich. Of course, a light butter on either side of it doesn't do any harm if it's intended for a man who likes butter.
Remember, too, that it's easier to look wise than to talk wisdom. Say less than the other fellow and listen more than you talk; for when a man's listening he isn't telling on himself and he's flattering the fellow who is. Give most men a good listener and most women enough note-paper and they'll tell all they know. Money talks -- but not unless its owner has a loose tongue, and then its remarks are always offensive. Poverty talks, too, but nobody wants to hear what it has to say.
Translation - Arabic أذكر أنني قرأت ذات مرة أن بعض الناس يستخدمون اللغة لإخفاء ما يفكرون به، ولكن من واقع خبرتي أري أن معظمهم يستعيضون باللغة عن التفكير.
يجب أن تكون القواعد التي تحكم ما يتحدث به رجل الأعمال أقل وأبسط من تلك التي تنظم أي عمل آخر للإنسان ككائن حي، وتلك القواعد هي:
ليكن لديك ما تقوله.
قله.
توقف عن الكلام.
البدء بالحديث قبل أن تعرف ما تريد قوله أو الاستمرار فيه بعد أن تكون قد قلت ما لديك قد يوقعك كتاجر في مشكلات قانونية أو يؤدي إلي إفلاسك، كما أنك إذا بدأت بالأولي فستنتهي إلي الثانية. لدى هنا إدارة قانونية، وهي تكلفني الكثير، ولكنها تجنبني الحاجة إلي اللجوء للقانون.
إذا كنت تتحدث مع فتاة أو مع رفاقك بعد العشاء فلا بأس من أن تكون مسترخيا ومسترسلا في الحديث، ولكن في العمل يجب أن تكون جملك أقصر ما يكون. لا تلجأ إلي المقدمات ولا إلي النهايات الفخمة، ولا تبدأ الحديث عن "ثانيا". يجب أن تُبقي عظاتك قصيرة لتؤثر في الخطاة، وأما المؤمنين فهم أيضا لا يرون أنهم بحاجة إلي عظات طويلة. أعطي الأحمق الكلمة الأولى والمرأة الكلمة الأخيرة، وأبقي دائما ما يهم في منتصف الكلام. ولا يمنع من أن تلجأ إلي بعض الإطراء في أول الكلام وآخره إن كنت تتحدث إلي من يحب أن تطريه.
تذكر أيضا أنه من السهل أن تبدو حكيما ولكن من الصعب أن تنطق الحكمة. تحدث أقل ممن حولك وأنصت أكثر مما تتكلم، لأنه عندما تنصت فأنت لا تفضح نفسك ولا تنافق من يفضح نفسه. أعطي الرجل شخصا يجيد الاستماع والمرأة أوراقا كافية، وكلاهما سيخبرك بكل ما يعرفه. المال يتكلم – فقط إذا كان صاحبه منفلت اللسان، وفي هذه الحالة، فكل ما يقوله مهين. والفقر أيضا يتكلم، ولكن لا أحد يريد أن ينصت إلي ما لديه.

Source text - Arabic البند الثالث
التعهدات: يتعهد الطرف الثاني بالآتي:
1. عدم استخدام القرض الممنوح بموجب هذا العقد إلا للغرض المذكور بالبند الثاني.
2. تقديم كافة أصول فواتير الشراء ومستندات الشحن الخاصة بالمعدات والآلات والممول قيمتها من الطرف الأول.
3. التوقيع على عقد الرهن التجارية للآلات والمعدات الممول شرائها من الطرف الأول فور ورودها من الخارج.
و يقر الطرف الثاني بأنه غير معسر ولم يصدر ضده أحكام بإشهار إفلاس ولم يتحرر ضده بروتستو عدم الدفع. ويصبح الدين وعائده وعمولاته مستحقا السداد فورا دون حاجة إلي تنبيه أو إنذار ويعتبر هذا العقد مفسوخا من تلقاء نفسه في حالة إخلال الطرف الثاني بأي التزام من الالتزامات الناشئة عن هذا العقد، وعلى وجه الخصوص:
1. إذا تأخر الطرف الثاني (المدين المقترض) في سداد أي قسط من أقساط القرض الممنوح بموجب هذا العقد.
2. إذا تبين في أي وقت من الأوقات عدم صحة البيانات الواردة في هذا العقد.
3. إذا صدر أمر أو قرار أو حكم بحل أو تصفية الشركة، أو إذا عقد الطرف الثاني أو اقترح عقد اجتماع مع دائنيه للاتفاق على صلح واق من الإفلاس.
4. إذا أتي الطرف الثاني بأي عمل من شأنه إضعاف أو إتلاف التأمينات والضمانات المقدمة لصالح البنك (الطرف الأول).
5. إذا توقع على الطرف القاني (المدين المقترض) حجز على أمواله المنقولة أو العقارية.
6. إذا توقف الطرف الثاني عن السداد أو هدد بالتوقف عن السداد.
Translation - English Article Three
Undertakings: The second party hereby undertakes to:
1. Using the loan granted by this contract only for the purpose specified in article two.
2. Submitting all original purchase invoices and shipping documents for machines and equipment funded by the first party.
3. Signing the commercial mortgage of the machines and equipment the purchase of which is funded by the first party as soon as said machines and equipment arrive from abroad.
The second party hereby declares not being insolvent and that no bankruptcy rulings or notices of nonpayment protests are issued against same. The debt, returns and commissions thereof shall be immediately payable without the need for a notification or warning, and this contract shall be deemed to be automatically terminated if the second party fails to comply with any of the obligations arising from this contract, and in particular in the following events:
1. The second party (indebted borrower) fails to pay any of the installments of the loan granted as per this contract.
2. It becomes evident at any time that the information herein included in this contract is not correct.
3. An order, decision or ruling is issued to terminate or liquidate the company, or if the second party holds or proposes to hold a meeting with creditors thereof to agree on conciliation to avoid bankruptcy.
4. The second party commits any act that may weaken or destroy the warrantees and guarantees submitted in favor of the bank (first party).
5. The movable or real property of the second party (indebted borrower) fall under attachment.
6. The second party halts or threatens to halt payment.

I have extensive experience in translation and interpreting in the fields of law (including legal documents, court cases, contracts, etc), development, human rights, politics, journalism, advertising and other fields. I am a NAATI accredited professional translator (English/Arabic). I am currently on the UN Arabic translation roster, and had freelanced with the WB Group. Until I left Egypt, I worked as an instructor of translation and interpreting at the School of Continuing Education of the American University in Cairo (AUC).
