Он представляет вам живое изображение и ручается только за его сходство с действительностью; а там уж ваше дело определять степень достоинства изображенных предметов: он к этому совершенно равнодушен…
История о том, как лежит и спит добряк — ленивец Обломов и как ни дружба, ни любовь не могут пробудить и поднять его, — не бог весть какая важная история. Но в ней отразилась русская жизнь, в ней предстает перед нами живой, современный русский тип, отчеканенный с беспощадной строгостью и правильностью, в ней сказалось новое слово нашего общественного развития, произнесенное ясно и твердо, без отчаяния и ребяческих надежд, но с полным сознанием истины. Слово это — обломовщина; оно служит ключом к разгадке многих явлений русской жизни, и оно придает роману Гончарова гораздо более общественного значения, нежели сколько имеют его все наши обличительные повести.
Translation - English He (Goncharov) cares neither for the reader nor the conclusions they are drawing from his novel: he leaves it entirely up to his audience, he leaves it entirely up to you. If your conclusions are wrong – then it’s your own short-sightedness to blame, but never the author. He presents you with the live portrait, and vouches only for its resemblance to reality. Beyond that, it is up to you to determine the degree of worth of the depicted subjects: he himself is entirely indifferent to it.
The story of how the kind-hearted but lazy Oblomov lies around and dozes, - and how neither friendship nor love could get him out of bed, - is not a great deal of a story. But in it we can see a reflection of the Russian way of life. A true contemporary Russian type, chiselled with the most steady and unforgiving hand, is what we see before us in this story. The narrative is marked with a new word in our social development; the word which was pronounced clearly and confidently, without despair or childhood hopes, but in full awareness of the truth. This word is “oblomovschina”. It is the key to the mystery of many a phenomenon of Russian life. It is this which endows the novel with a much stronger social meaning than there ever was in all the rest of our denunciatory novels taken altogether.

I am a native Russian speaker (20 years in Ukraine), and a fluent speaker of the English language (13 years in the UK).
I obtained my Teacher Training Certificate from the Izmail University of Pedagogy in Ukraine (with specialization in teaching English) in 1996. The same year I came to England to improve my language skills.
I graduated from the Nottingham Trent University with a 1st in Software Engineering in 2003, and I have been working in England as a software developer ever since.
Apart from software development, my past commercial experience includes interpreting at trade shows and providing simultaneous translation for small tour groups.
Having learnt to appreciate the difference between being able to speak a language and being able to excel in simultaneous translation, I would like to extend the benefits of my linguistic experience to my clients.
