CAT Support for Java Properties Files Thread poster: Karin Kutscher

Dear all, I'm about to receive a large project from a client, who has told me that I could use any CAT as long as it supports .properties files. I'm looking for alternatives to Trados 2006/07; I'm using WinXP Pro SP2, and thinking of moving into Linux in the mid-term. What CAT would you suggest? Also, the project comes with a MultiTerm glossary. Is there any way that I could export it into this other CAT that you'd suggest? Thanks!! ... Hi Karin, You should try Heartsome Translation Suite on Linux. It supports Java Properties files and you will be able to use your glossaries. Export your MultiTerm glossaries as CSV or MARTIF and convert them to TBX with the plugins included in the Suite. You will be able to export your TM as Trados TXT or as TMX for reuse later on Windows. Regards, Rodolfo | | | esperantisto Local time: 12:55 Member (2006) English to Russian + ... It works also under Linux. Also, the project comes with a MultiTerm glossary. Is there any way that I could export it into this other CAT that you'd suggest? SDLX Lite (available for free) contains SDL TermBase. With it, you can import from Multiterm format, and export to Tab-delimited format, which is used by OmegaT. Didier Briel | |

esperantisto wrote: OmegaT works fine with Java bundles, because OmegaT is a Java program . Well, that's false logic. The fact that OmegaT is a Java program doesn't necessarily mean it can do .properties files. But, as it happens, yes, OmegaT can do .properties files. I use Wordfast for translating .properties files, but you have to tag the document manually, and remember to save in the correct format. In fact, I'm sure you can use Trados as well, but you have to convert the .properties file into an RTF file tagged with tw4winExternal. | | | No conversion needed with Trados | Mar 28, 2007 |

Recent versions of Trados (7.0 and above?) support .properties natively, no conversion needed. The only tweaking involved is setting the start/end chars in Filter Settings. So if you have a friend with Trados, you could probably ask him/her to create TTX files, translate, and post back to your colleague for cleaning... /Jan | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » CAT Support for Java Properties Files Trados Business Manager Lite | Create customer quotes and invoices from within Trados Studio
