Weeks ago it was announced that non-paying members would pay a fee of 1 $ (or 100 browniz) from January 1 in order to put bids. I\'m a non-paying member and I\'m still bidding in the usual way without being charged. In what way will the charge be applied to non-paying members?
Has the deadline for free bidding been postponed in some ways?

I could understand if there is a fee to place work on the site, but 1$ per bid ! insane!
Most jobs aren\'t even closed in a timely fashion...
There is a lot of bidding going on. Proz trying to get rich over the backs of already low paid translators ??
(you probably already had this discussion when the topic of paying for bids was introduced, right ?)

Remember, 100 browniz is also an option. You will see the fee in a few days. We\'re giving a few grace days.
Platinum members will not notice any difference; for paying members, bidding will continue to be free.

It\'s a balanced solution to problems discussed (oh ya) many times:
1. Make bidders more conscientious. If you pay, you take care to contemplate and bid in a conscientious manner and the number of bidders is thus reduced.
2. It still keeps our community open. Anybody can (1$/100 BrowniZ) make a bid (compare with Aquarius and others)
3. You are enticed to be helpful by earning BrowniZ, with which you can pay your way.
4. We all contribute to a better financial base for ProZ.com, that give us all so much

I think that it is a very fair suggestion and as Mats said, it makes us (who cannot pay to be a member yet) work harder at earning browniz points, therefore helping others, and ourselves at the same time.
I think that Proz.com is a wonderful site and a true asset to all freelance translators.

1. I would like to know how this will work for poeple like myself who do not live in US$ based countries. My concern is that although the fee is only $1, it may cost me 10 times in bank charges to send a US$ remittance from a non-US$ account.

Suggestion:
The negative aspects of the 2 issues I have raised above can, to a certain extent, be reduced if ProZ were to collect the fees on a periodic basis (as opposed to on a job-by- job basis). I would suggest that quarterly collection of fees might be appropriate.
I should add that I am not opposed to the fee in principle, but I think there are a few detailed points such as these which need to be considered and explained to your users in due course.

Yes, it is quite true that not all jobs are real jobs. Many outsources are simply looking to expand their database. Others are only \"looking\" for translators only \"in case\" they get the job from their client [ potential jobs]
But I have another question: While non paying members can use their BrowniZ in order to bid, platinum members cannot use our BrowniZ in any way. Or is there one I know not of?

I think this is a fair fee and for those who cannot pay $1 (for different reasons, like do not live in the USA etc), then they can contribute more to the proZ workplace, to earn BrowniZ.
