Hi
does anybody know why once the translation finished not all segments are written to the TM. This is quite annoying as I use to export to TMX for proofing and I do not find all segments in the other tool.

Not sure, as I am only testing the trial myself, and they seem to have made a few odd design choices, but I think you need to enable these:

Preferences > Translation Memory > Translation Memory >

(×) Write 'exact' matches to TM
(×) Write 'unedited MT' to TM
(×) Write 'unedited fuzzy' to TM
(×) Write 'unedited autopropagated fuzzy' to TM

tm

Michael

PS: I am still trying to figure out their weird naming conventions re Confirmed/Unconfirmed segments, ‘Committing’ segments, etc. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to simply confirm a segment and move to the next, while automatically skipping any 100% matches.

I don't know about WFP5, but in WFC, if you perform a "clean up" against an empty active TM, and you're still connected to other TMs (in WFC it's called the background TM), and a segment occurs in that other TM, then WFC won't add the segment to the active TM. So perhaps you should make sure that no other TMs are connect, when you create a new TM and clean up the file(s) against that new TM.

Also, WFC doesn't add segments that it considers "identical". WFC ignores numbers (and often also capitalization) when adding to the TM, so it may be that when you clean up a file, segments with different numbers or different capitalisation (or even different punctuation) are not all added to the TM.

@Michael:
That's what I did already, enabling all those options, but to no avail.

@Samuel: Will try your suggestion to cleanup against an empty TM. Will report later.

Thanks to you all

I think I found it out: You (simply...) have to filter the whole file one option after the other (Duplicate segment, MT traslated segments, etc.) and commit the filtered selection to TM. That apparently works. Last question I have: Why do they waste my time with that filtering, why not Commit all as it says in the icon bar...?

Now what is really annoying is:
- I made up a project in WFP5 and translated two sdlppx files (about 2500 segments)
- I made up the same project in Cafetran, am proofing and realize that a number of segments are not translated because they simply did not show up in WFP5 for translation.
Not good, as the guy with orange hair would say.

I don't know under what circumstances WFP5 would not show segments. Could it be that those segments are locked in the SDLXLIFF files? I don't know what WFP5 and CafeTran do to locked segments.

Last week I had an MXLIFF file which the client altered so that half of the segments don't show up (even though they were still in the file). When I opened the MXLIFF file in OmegaT, only the half of segments that I was supposed to edit, were visible, but when I opened it in Virtaal, all segments were visible (including the ones that I was not supposed to edit).

Well, they show locked segments as locked segments unless I tell them not to show them.
I have heard of that problem with mxliff files missing segments when opened in another tool. That's why I ask customer to send sdlxliff instead of mxliff.
