... not motorized, so it's price was very reasonable. I also have a top quality ergonomic chair. I developed two sitting related problems during the years, the chair did not solve them, the desk immediately did.

to standing, why not lying down or sitting back with legs stretched out while working with laptop or desktop. I know that many of those products have been released and cost a fortune. For the time being, I will need to do a little stretching and take a nap.

Just put a stool on your desk and your laptop on the stool as I do. When a project is big and requires me sitting for days round, I stand the first half of the day and usually sit back in the afternoon.

I have the motorized desk from Ikea (the only one available at a reasonable price), and I like it. Now that I think of it, I believe the crank model would have done just as well, as nowadays I often stand for most of the time, and have to remind myself to sit down once in a while, so I'm not changing the height daily. When I sit, I sit on a gym ball. I'm a small person, so most office chairs I've tried are too big (deep and wide) for me to reach the back rest and floor at the same time.

The kitchen counter would be my standing desk
I usually reply to the morning e-mails while doing stuff in the kitchen, same after working hours.
If I have room for adjustable standing disk that would be something, changing positions while working for hours and hours helps a lot!

I don't think a notebook or laptop is adequate for many hours of working, and this kind of desk implies one of them. So, not for me. But if I'm not at home and I have something really urgent, I could do some things in one of these desks, with a glass of beer next to it.

I don't use a laptop and there is room for 2 monitors on a manually height-adjustable desk measuring 80 x 80 cm. After using it for a year I would not want to be without it.

I'm not quite sure why you think that. My sitting/standing desk is 160 x 80 cm so there's room for a lot of things. I do have a laptop, yes, but I use it with a 27" monitor and an ergonomic keyboard.

Anyone with circulation problems should avoid these at all costs, because standing still is the worst thing you can do. It helps varicose veins swell up no end.

Once you connect your laptop to a 27" monitor, an ergonomic keyboard and a mouse, guess what: you're using a desktop, not a laptop anymore. With the huge disadvantage that the laptop slows down as it heats, which does not happen to the desktop. This has been widely disucussed here earlier. What is not adequate for working is the laptop with its own keyboard and screen. And given the disadvantage mentioned above, it's not ideal for work, period. But you'll only find out when you try to work on a desktop. You'll never buy a laptop again as your main working computer. It's great to have one. I have two. I take it with me when I travel, etc. But when it's time to work, my desktop is incomparably better. I mean absolutely incomparably better.

Actually, I was referring to your comment about a standing desk implying a laptop ("this kind of desk implies one of them"), not about the adequateness of laptops.
I know all about the superiority of desktop computers, but for various reasons they weren't a good option for me before (moving and traveling often) so I got a fairly powerful 17" laptop instead. For now I'm happy with its performance, but will certainly upgrade to a desktop at some point when the laptop reaches its retirement age.
