I discovered Proz in 2007 when surfing the net and have been a “frequent flyer” since then.

I think it was surfing the net Dec 13, 2015

When the agency I worked for in-house was in difficulties and had to let most of its translators go, a colleague mentioned another site to me and told me that such sites existed. I searched the net and registered with several.

The one she mentioned still exists and claims to be the oldest online marketplace for translation and localisation. The first job came through Proz.com, from a client I worked with for several years. Indeed, although I do not work for that agency any more, one

The one she mentioned still exists and claims to be the oldest online marketplace for translation and localisation. The first job came through Proz.com, from a client I worked with for several years. Indeed, although I do not work for that agency any more, one of my current best clients head-hunted me at the recommendation of a former PM from the earlier company.

I discovered Proz about nine years ago when I was having trouble getting paid by an agency in France which later went bankrupt. Before that, I didn't know such sites existed, but I'm very glad they do.

Other/colleagues Dec 13, 2015

I was told about it while studying my Masters by a freelance translator who had come in to talk to us about the freelancing side. I didn't join until I was seriously considering going freelance and another translator advised me to.

University teacher Dec 13, 2015

I discovered it through my University teacher at the University of Salento (Lecce).
She held a seminar with a professional translator and he gave us the name of this website (among other useful information).

A colleague, Dec 13, 2015

But I'm sure I would have found it within a few days if he didn't suggest it (thank you André Nogueira).

Through a competitor´s forum Dec 13, 2015

Somebody made a post on the premier translators site before Proz existed. They compared the two sites saying how Proz was vastly superior. They were right.

Now the only translators site I ever visit is Proz. Nobody else comes close.

By chance Dec 14, 2015

I received an email from an agency which got into a spam folder as it was a mass mail. Still, I had a look at it and they were calling for resumes and asked to provide a link to a Proz profile. I did some research...
