Dear all,
how can I keep files visible in the dialog box Files or Projects? Every time when I open a new file the former one disappears and I have to reload it again.
Thank you very much. Anja

More details needed Aug 14, 2015

To help you with your problem, we need to know:

- what you mean by dialog box. Is it the window that appears when you click Files or Projects in the bottom lefthand corner? Or is it a dialog box in a wizard (to add a new file, create a new project, etc.)?
- how you are opening a new file (please give us the exact steps)
- what you do to 'reload' the disappearing files

Dear Emma,

Thanks for your reply.

1) Yes, by dialog box I mean the window that appears when I click Files or Projects in the bottom lefthand corner.

2) To open a new file I go to: Home page > Translate single document > I choose the document to be translated > I choose the language pair > I add a TM and I start translating.

3) To reload the disappearing files (that means, when I'm working on a file, close it, open another file for another customer e.g. the first file disapears)
If it is a single file, there is no problem, I reopen it, but if it is a package I must do this: Go to the Home page > go to Open a package > I choose the package to be translated > I select the file > Finish > Then appears the message: You have already imported the package before. Do you want to import it again? > Then I say Yes to continue the translation.
What I want is to keep ALL FILES I'm working on visible in the Files or Project Window until I have finished them/closed the package.

I'm sure that there is a way to do this, but I don't know how.
Thank for very much for your help.
Anja

Strange... Aug 15, 2015

Well, this sounds very strange. Files and projects shouldn't disappear.

With the "translate single document" method, you have to save the SDLXLIFF (bilingual) file using Ctrl+S before closing Studio. Do you do that?

If so, maybe your project settings file is corrupt. To recreate it:
- Close Studio
- Delete the file called projects.xml located at C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Studio 2014\Projects

All projects will disappear from the list (which is your current situation anyway). To retrieve existing projects, browse to them from inside Studio by going to File>Open>Project and click on the project file.

In theory, they shouldn't disappear again.

Nothing changed Aug 15, 2015

Dear Emma,
I did the steps you proposed, but nothing changed. Only 1 file remains in the window.
Anyway, thanks a lot indeed - I will live with this situation.

3 more settings files to delete Aug 15, 2015

Don't give up!

There are 3 more settings files that you should try deleting:
- BaseSettings.xml
- plugincache.xml
- UserSettings.xml
For Studio 2014 you'll find them here:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\11.0.0.0
(Don't forget to close Studio first)
Studio will recreate them when you restart it.

Hope this works!

Dear Emma,
Sorry, if I disturb you, but perhaps you can help me again:
I tried to open Trados Studio 2014 and got the message: An error occured while retrieving your license.
The system does not start.
What shall I do ?

Thank you so much.
Best regards.
Anja
