Hello,

I am relatively new to OmegaT so please excuse if there is an easy solution to this.

I uploaded and translated a source file of several pages length which I had near completion last night. Because my battery was low I decided to stop for the night, saved my file and closed the program. In earlier project files this was no problem and I could reload the file the next time opened the program.

Hello,

I am relatively new to OmegaT so please excuse if there is an easy solution to this.

I uploaded and translated a source file of several pages length which I had near completion last night. Because my battery was low I decided to stop for the night, saved my file and closed the program. In earlier project files this was no problem and I could reload the file the next time opened the program.

when I tried to open the file again today, however, I could not load the work I had done last night! In the omegat folder on my computer I found a file called "project_save.tmx" which, when opened with a word program, shows translated segments (in alphabetical order), but I cannot seem to load the document into OmegaT or retrieve the document with the level of translations I had already done. There is also no target document for this project in the "target" folder.

I am now panicking slightly because the deadline is tonight.

Can anybody on here perhaps help me out?

Thank you very, very much in advance,
Joanna

create translated documents Jul 8, 2015

If there's nothing in the target folder, then I think you forgot to "create translated documents" after you saved your file. Control D. Can you still do it now?

What was the error message? Jul 9, 2015

When you tried to open your project, there was probably an error message.

In the omegat folder on my computer I found a file called "project_save.tmx" which, when opened with a word program, shows translated segments (in alphabetical order), but I cannot seem to load the document into OmegaT or retrieve the document with the level of translations I had already done.

Your translation is probably intact.

It's possible (hard to say without the error message) that only the omegat.project file was corrupted.
To solve this:
- Create a new project with the same characteristics (language pair) as the existing one.
- Quit OmegaT.
- Copy project_save.tmx from the omegat folder of the existing project to the omegat folder of the new project.
- Try to load the new project.

I am now panicking slightly because the deadline is tonight.

Can anybody on here perhaps help me out?

The OmegaT support group on Yahoo generally provides a faster support.

Didier

OmegaT creating incomplete Translated Document Oct 17, 2015

Thank you for your answers.

Due to limited internet availability and knowledge of the programme (Didier, I unfortunately had no way of retrieving the error message, nor could I recall what it might have said), I actually ended up re-translating the whole document... which is why I didn't post a reply on here earlier.

Now, in another attempt to use OmegaT for a translation project, I have finished the translated document (18 pages), Saved and Created Translated Document, however open opening said file I receive a translated document containing only the first 2 pages.

I tried to reload the project but nothing changed.

Does anybody else using Ubuntu have this sort of problem with OmegaT? Is it a software bug or just me?

Is the translation still there in the editor? Oct 18, 2015

I'm sure it's not a "bug."
When you reopen the document, is the whole translation still there in the editor?
Those more knowledgeable than I will have to answer you, but it might be helpful for them to know which version of OmegaT you are using.

Not that I know of. But, as Susan asked, what version of OmegaT are you using? On Ubuntu, the default version of OmegaT is completely outdated.

Is it a software bug or just me?

Hard to tell.
Again, I recommend subscribing to the Yahoo support group, where you would get more dedicated help.

What was the format of the target document?
When you used Create Translated Documents, was the target document open in another program?

Didier

Hi and thank you both for your answers.

I am using OmegaT-2.3.0_1 on Ubuntu.
All filed were closed when creating TD.

For good measure I have tried re-starting, closing all documents and re-loading Create Translated Document.
When I reload the source file (which for some reason is saved in .docm format, i'm not sure if that could be a problem) the translation is there and complete, however the translated document still only contains the first 2 pages.

I ended up selecting all translated text and copying it into a new Word file. Here I came across a few straggling Tags, which led me to think that perhaps the one or other Tag was accidentally deleted or corrupted during tranlsation.

I am guessing that the problem could eventually result from faulty/corrupted Tags.

Anyway, I think I will look into downloading a more up-to-date CAT to run on Wine...

Use an up-to-date version of OmegaT Oct 19, 2015

josumi wrote:

This version is completely obsolete. It was released in 2011.

Go to OmegaT downloads, and take at least the Standard version:
http://www.omegat.org/en/downloads.html

Have you tried to validate tags?

Anyway, I think I will look into downloading a more up-to-date CAT to run on Wine...

Why not try an up-to-date version of OmegaT first?

Didier
