Every time I use Wordfast the glossary box jumps out, is this normal?!

Which version of Wordfast? May 5, 2012

Which version of Wordfast do you refer to? Can you describe what you mean by "glossary box jumps out"? Or perhaps provide a snapshot?

Hi Dominique,

When I open Wordfast, the glossary box opens (without me asking for it) as a separate box, which I have to close separately when I close Wordfast. I can't explain it better than that sorry and I don't know how to do a snapshot!

AC (AutoComplete)? May 7, 2012

You are probably referring to the AC (AutoComplete) box that is displayed whenever you start typing a term that belongs to your glossary, such as here:

In my glossary, I have syntymäaika = date de naissance and syntymä = naissance, so when I start typing "sy" or "da" or "na", Wordfast displays suggestions as per the glossary, which I can accept by pressing Enter, and Wordfast will "autocomplete" the suggestion for me.

You can learn more about AutoComplete in the following videos:

http://wordfast.fi/blog/cat-tools/2012/03/10/autocomplete-in-wordfast-classic-v-6/

http://wordfast.fi/blog/cat-tools/2012/04/07/the-new-style-autocomplete-in-wordfast-classic-6-03/

You can disable AutoComplete via Setup > AC.

As to taking snapshots, I recommend the free combo Jing + screencast.com:

This will allow you to take snapshots, upload them to your screencast.com account and post a link such as this one:

No, It's definitely the glossary box that I'm seeing. I was wondering if I forgot to close it once, before closing Wordfast, so now it keeps popping up.(?)

I'll look at this when I've got a bit of spare time! Thanks

Terminology companion? May 7, 2012

OK, maybe it's the terminology companion window. If so, it's a separate (stripped down) Word window. You can close it by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T+T.

Again, it would be much easier if you could provide a snapshot of what you're seing, because a "glossary box" doesn't tell me much (or then I lack imagination).

Sounds like it could be this, but when I press Ctrl+Alt+T+T this opens up the editing box for terminology. If it helps you, the window pops out when I open up my first segment (not when I open Wordfast - maybe I should have said that before, sorry), the Words window reduces and then this window pops out. It doesn't really cause a problem but it's annoying, especially as I don't know why and I'm sure I've just done something stupid!

I'll try and do a screenshot but I'm pretty sure that it's the terminologly window as I can see the entries that I've made.

A similar thing that is nagging me May 21, 2012

Hello Dominique,
I dunno how to name the issue and whether it belongs here, but it looks like the snapshot you pasted when select a terminology item. The problem is that when I press Esc it won't disappear. A dark stays to ultimately spoil the end of paragraph mark (by turning it into invisible purple format). This problem has been nagging me for a betas back.
I still haven't worked out how to paste my snapshot (seem as if I need a program you suggest).

Hope something can be done about it.

having the same problem Jun 21, 2012

I started having the same issue as you a few weeks ago (Terminology window opens when opening first segment for translation). I'm not sure what I did to start it (maybe it was when I was trying the "propagate" feature - which, by the way started turning my dispay upside down and did not propagate anything..). Was anyone able to help?

solution found - thanks Jun 21, 2012

As I reread the posts above, something clicked..
I was reading "double CTL-ALT-G" as doing CTL-ALT-G twice.. which was doing nothing. Then I noticed the mention of CTL-ALT-T-T and tried that format with CTL-ALT-G-G.. It worked! The popup window closed and did not open again when I tested with a new translation.. Yay!!

Right, I'll try that myself as I never sorted out the problem - annoying as it was it didn't really effect the translation process. Thanks very much, I'll sleep better tonight!

Ctrl+Alt+G+G, not Ctrl+Alt+T+T Jun 21, 2012

Sorry, my bad: the shortcut I mentioned for the terminology companion was not Ctrl+Alt+T+T, it was indeed Ctrl+Alt+G+G (G standing for glossary).

Neat! Jun 30, 2012

I'd never thought of posting a question about it as I didn't really know what to say and thought it might even be what happened to everyone.

Nice to be able to turn it off. Thanks all.

Hey there,

I have been reading your solution to the problem which is :
CTRL + ALT + G + G

I have tried all different combinations of above mentioned keys with no luck, the glossary keeps opening everytime I start a translation.

What am I doing wrong? I have done it presing the keys and keep them pressed while presing G. Any thoughts?
