  • Dear members,

Here is a report on news and advancements since the mid-year report to members for 2013.*

  • In addition to the ongoing improvements this year to the ProZ.com directory, profiles, and job posting system, improvements were also made to the translator feedback system, also known as Willingness to Work Again (WWA). It is now easier to request and receive feedback from satisfied clients, and clients can now provide feedback to translators without needing to register on the site. Read more >>

  • Improvements are being made to the ProZ.com online invoicing tool. This service is free to all ProZ.com paying members, and over 8,000 people have used the invoicing tool so far. Read more >>
    ProZ.com community choice awards

  • Winners for the first annual ProZ.com community choice awards were announced. Congratulations to this year's winners, and thank you to everyone who participated. Read more about how the Community choice awards work and view winners >>

  • Following the Networking event for translators working in the Hotel and Tourism industry and the creation of a large group of translators working in that area, improvements were made to the Teams service to make it easier to create a team and to collaborate with teammates. Read more >>

  • The Certified PRO Network world map was started, to show the distribution of members of the network throughout the world and to help facilitate the search for Certified PROs. If you are not already familiar with the CPN, you can read more about it here >>

  • In Translator training, a charity event will be held this month, on November 15th, in support of the UNESCO's "Education of children in need" program. Three ProZ.com trainers have generously donated time and expertise to offer three free webinars for this event. Read more >>

  • Also in training, webinar schedules have been expanded in order to better accommodate attendees around the world, and new courses, and courses in languages previously unavailable (including Indonesian, Chinese and Japanese) have been added, as well as training and certification in the latest version of Trados, Studio 2014.

  • The translation center, thanks to the generosity of Translators without Borders volunteers, has processed just over 13 million words to date for NGOs around the world.

Thank you, Jared and the team Nov 5, 2013

Among an impressive array of topics set out in Jared's report, I found the UNESCO training activity of particular interest and I shall follow up the link to this first of all.

Through Jared himself, and the evidence of the hard work entailed in compiling the report among other duties, I should like to say thank you to the team that "tins the wires" for us all at Syracuse and elsewhere.

With kind regards and best wishes,

    With kind regards,

    Adam

Thank you for all your hard work. I am very pleased to be part of the system.
However, when I looked at the map of certified pro members I realized that I was not represented at all (in New Brunswick). Could it be that the map is not complete yet?

    Please, let me know.

    Thanks Jared:
Thank you for all your hard work to keep us on top of things and well informed of the latest developments at ProZ.com. Especially interesting for me was the Certified Pro Members map, where I was able to look up... (as well as leave recommendations for some of those with whom I've collaborated) ...all of my peers in my language pairs.
It's people like you who make ProZ.com the very best of the best translator's workplace.
    Keep up the great work!

The Certified PRO Network world map shows membership in the network by country, Ingeborg, and not by state, province, region or city. If you visit the map and click the "P" icon on Canada you will be given a link to see the list of Certified PROs in Canada, including you.

    Hope this explains.

Thank you to everyone who has posted feedback here or replied to the email on the report so far!

Andrei, to answer your question about the translation contests, that is something I would have liked to be able to include in this report! It is hoped that at least one contest can be kicked off between now and year's-end, most definitely with a source text in English and hopefully with source texts where site staff are native speakers. I will keep you informed!

It is hoped that at least one contest can be kicked off between now and year's-end, most definitely with a source text in English and hopefully with source texts where site staff are native speakers. I will keep you informed!

One issue with translation contests is finding suitable source texts, and finding them in as many languages as possible, to open up the opportunities to participate to everyone. A feature that allows members to propose potential source texts in their native language for contests was created, but unfortunately has not been widely used to date. Source texts can be proposed here: http://www.proz.com/translation-contests/propose_source_text

If you come across a text you think may be suitable, please submit it, and spread the word to colleagues you think may be able to help. I'll post back here (as well as making the announcement) when the next contest is set to go.

    Thanks!

I really appreciate your hard work. I have enjoyed to be a member of the Certified PRO Network. But, I must say that the "P" icon in Chile is not working.

    Hello Paz,

It looks like the map, powered by Google maps, may not be working properly in browsers which are not Chrome. Please give it a try at searching for PROs in the map with Google Chrome. In the meantime, I will try to contact Google support for more information on their recent updates to maps and see how this issue can be fixed. I also added a note to the ProZ.com Certified PRO Network world map page.

    Thanks for the heads-up!

    Lucia
