Hello, I am starting to work with OmegaT, just downloaded the version 3.0.5 and I am not able to open the xml file in it. I understood that OmegaT can handle them. As I mentioned, I am a fresh beginner so I could have missed something basic. I remember that about a week or two ago I was able to open one in the version 2.6.3 but finally I did not get that job so I did not continue working on that. I remember that about a week or two ago I was able to open one in the version 2.6.3 but finally I did not get that job so I did not continue working on that. Today I was not able to open it and I see a message in the empty project window "Your project does not contain any file in the compatible format". What I did is: I opened the new project, I copied the xml files into the source folder, reloaded the project and I see that message. When I copy the .odt file into it, I can open it without problem. I think I missed something but cannot figure out what. Maybe someone can help me? Btw. I work in Windows 7. I'm *no* expert, but until somebody else answers: What kind of xml file? What is the extension? If it's Microsoft open xml ( .docx) you shouldn't be having a problem. Make sure it's .docx, not .doc. | | | Didier Briel France Local time: 02:57 English to French + ... What kind of XML? | Oct 30, 2013 |

There's no generic XML filter in OmegaT. OmegaT can handle *some* XML formats. Some of these have the .xml extensions, but not all. For instance, as Susan says, .docx are XML files. The XML formats with the .xml extension recognised by OmegaT are DocBook, Android Resources, Typo3 LocManager, Typo3 l10nmgr, Help & Manual, Infix and Flash XML Export. No, it is not a docx file. It is xml file. However to my big surprise I was able to open it in Microsoft Office. But it is still xml. I tried to save it as docx and was able to open it. But I wonder what will happen whet I finnish the translation and try to save it again as a xml file. Anyway I will try that, this will be my first project in OmegaT, so I will see. Thank you Susan. It's better to do that early than trying to do it at the last moment. Didier Yes, OmegaT is not made to parse arbitrary XML files, at least so far (OmegaT 3.0.8). You can either process them with Okapi to get XLIFF files or customize the XHTML filter so that it accepts them. | | | There is no moderator assigned specifically to this forum.
