One more idea Aug 31, 2013

I suggest that we just work a little bit on it, elaborate and polish it. And we can use it as a template in reply to such and similar idiotic (sorry for the word, but it really suits here) "offers". Earlier, my approach was just to ignore such "proposals" (not to bother even responding), but yesterday I really lost my patience. I think it is time to start acting.

If they had know how ridiculous they sounded they would have Aug 31, 2013

stopped e-mails of that kind, which are a proof of total unprofessionalism of the company sending them, or posting such offers. The whole thing, not just the rate, is too ridiculous to even make fun of. Just ignore it. Maybe someone should tell them that "the Emperor is naked", though.

"We need a few surgeons here, with at least 10 years of experience in top hospitals. They should provide us with copies of all their diplomas , licenses and certifications. They have to be able to

They have to be able to work flexible hours because we have a lot of patients, and we want to make some cash fast. Our budget is $8.25/hr. Please hurry, only the first ten have a chance to be hired."

Nice to know I was not the only one Aug 31, 2013

to receive this "offer".
Btw, after checking their website I noticed the following sentence:

"Or minimum charge is €70/$90/£60 and our prices start from €0.14/source word for the least expensive language pairs and for the lowest service level."

So imagine their profit...

@Marius - wonderful answer. I think you should patent it (if you don't, somebody else will)

Now that's deplorable—if they really manage to charge their clients so much, actually, which may be just an empty claim.

Any agency that really charged just a bit above what translators are normally paid while trying to make translators work for 7-14 times less should be refused any notice or mention in polite company.

Marius, Dude:
This was great, had a good chuckle. Really loved your offer of discounts on large volumes. I also agree that this should be polished up and posted on Proz as a resource for blowing off such ridiculous offers. Perhaps to community could contribute so we get the same letter in multiple languages.

Hello Marius,

Hungarians got the same "offer".

Here's my reply:
"Dear ...,
Thank you very much for contacting me.
Unfortunately, as I am an economist, I don't have the necessary technical education for this project.
Best regards,
Orsolya"

At first I was going to say "hell, no". Then I thought, I should tell her how outrageous the rate is. Then I thought, she must be aware, so why bother?

I wonder if she got a posit

I wonder if she got a positive reply from anyone.

@Lukasz: Fantastic, a 7-times profit margin????

Great answer Marius! A big thank for bringing up this topic too. And thanks to airmailrpl, I found this company from the web follow your hint and put it in my own 'blacklist' already. We had similar discussions in our Chinese forum in the past, the sad truth is however ridiculous low the rate may be, it seems that there are really people who are willing to take it and thus slowly destroying our translation business...

Thanks Mira. Maybe you can update us if there is any feedback in response to the ticket you opened yesterday. I guess there is no way to prohibit this kind of offers though, normally I will simply ignore this kind of offers but Marius really treats it with a great sense of humor.

I for one would like to use this in future instances, so if you don't mind I will be sending this whenever I get a ridiculous offer.

Chapeau, Marius! Sep 2, 2013

Thank you for the laugh-out-loud moment!
I, too, would be interested in using your reply as a template for future 'generous' offers that should come my way, and I bet it won't be long before I get the next one...
Cheers!

Barbara
