I recently got an email from a client for whom I work for a while already. But they asked me for a voiceover job instead of translation this time. I don't do voiceover so I rejected to job but then I received the following email:

We don't know specifically what the videos are, but my understanding is that there are a few short videos. We would need timestamping, I assume, for the voiceover artist. This is a state agency that deals with pesticides, so for example the sample flyer they sent us for potential translation in the future is about bed bugs... If any of that helps to determine your rates, we would love to be able to get back to him today.
This is from English into Spanish and I am entering into the world of transcription so I want to take the job but I'm wondering what Timestamping is, I think she was referring to paste the Spanish audio in the video?
Is that what Timestamping is?
And, how much shall I charge per minute for EN>ES transcriptions jobs? As I said, I've known I can do it for a while already and I've been thinking about offering transcription services for a while already, I just have never known how much to charge for it. ▲ Collapse

What is time stamping?
Time stamping refers to inserting the time in minutes and seconds into a transcript at regular intervals. It provides a marker of where in the audio or video the text is found. It is useful for subtitling videos, SEO optimization, panel discussions, and legal transcripts. Time stamps are placed based on the frequency requested by clients. Some transcripts are stamped every five minutes, while others are stamped every three seconds!
Mr. Smith: (00:00:00) This is an example of how a time-stamped (00:00:03) document might look once we are finished (00:00:06) with it when you request timestamps (00:00:09).
Ms. Smith: Wow, that is truly an amazing (00:00:12) feature.

Thanks a lot for the help. I am thinking in charging $2.00USD per minute for EN>ES transcription + timestamping. I would like to know all your opinions about it.

It seems to me the best approach for you would be to actually test yourself, how long it takes to transcribe and timestamp a fixed amount of video.
For example, try a 10-minute (or 5 minutes) short section of a movie, preferably the same type as your potential job. (Documentary, romantic movie, action movie, whatever it is.)
I bet you will be shocked how long it takes to do it, and you will rethink that 2 dollars per minute rate. (Rates are always quoted in airtime, so it is the leng... Thank you for your post, it was really helpful, I actually made my price chart according to some of the info from the links. Unfortunately I will have to charge 2.50 for this job, since my client needed an urgent quote but I will apply my price chart on future projects!
