Reports on/and technical cooperation Nov 27, 2012

My favorite is medical research, but that's only the second most common type of work that I do. The largest is reports on technical cooperation for various international organizations. For example, I just finished 42,000 words on health systems in Bolivia. I said "and" technical cooperation because another chunk is handbooks, guidelines, etc., that are the actual subject of TC. Also, reports on meetings and seminars. I'd like to do less of this, because it doesn't stretch my mental muscles very... See more

Scientific and academic papers, marketing, website content Nov 27, 2012

Most of the time, my work revolves around scientific research in the medical and pharmaceutical fields. I do enjoy creative work, so translating marketing material and website content provides a nice balance of mental gymnastics.

Medical, legal and surveys mostly Nov 28, 2012

Predominantly - Eng>Hindi translation and back translation (Hindi>Eng) of documents related to clinical trials/research studies, such as informed consent forms, protocols and sometimes user manuals for medical devices, like insulin pens, asthma puffers, etc. However, in the recent years I see the trend that most of the agencies now send me subject information and informed consent forms with highlighted text (with instructions not to translate such text) or just the new text only. So the volume in these documents has declined considerably. Earlier where I used to get on average a documents around 4000 words, it is now around 1500 words or even less. They rarely send the complete documents now.

At number two in my case are definitely legal documents like court decisions, arbitration awards, memorandum of settlement (between management and workers, etc.), documents relating to immigration and detention laws, etc.

I also translate a lot of surveys including regular assignments from a reputed organization.
Besides these, I translate a lot in a variety of other fields. These include communications, tape translations, certificates, etc.

I have received a few inquiries in the past regarding translation of books here but they have offered me the lowest of all rates. So, none of them materialized.

Regards,

Pundora

I agree Nov 28, 2012

It exists, and it could also be listed there.

That is what I do about 90% of the time

I agree, there's a lot of knowledge and skill that goes into gaming translations. I wish I had more work in it though, most of what I do are contracts and immigration paperwork.
